While clearing the loft I found my old film scanner. It is a 12 year old Benq ScanWit 2740 and it uses a SCSI connection.
Because this old scanner is not compatible with Windows 10 I added an additional hard disk to my computer and install Windows XP and the associated drivers.
My first test scan was from a 10 year old negative, not sure what make the film was probably. Anyway here is my first negative scan in 12 years

Looks like the white balance might be a smidge off towards the blue, but otherwise looks pretty good :)

Agreed. Looks a bit blue but great detail. 645 negative?

That's very good and can't see much noise or grain (y) could be a digi shot for a joke on T&C :D

the WB is well off, so difficult to comment, IMHO

I used the Digital ICE noise reduction feature that the scanner has, also some noise reduction was applied in Photoshop.

I don't see how it's hard to comment on the shot because the white balance is out?

It's got an excellent lead in to the main building, good sharpness and an interesting sky. For the sake of 10 seconds of white balance correction I really like it.

To do justice to any shot and indeed to comment fully on them, it is good to see shots that are as good as possible and certainly without basic errors that can be corrected in 2 seconds .......... if I want comments on images that I post I try to post them as good as I can

The WB issue was pointed out in the second posting - the OP does not allow Edits

I did say IMHO ...... obviously yours is different

My comment was more aimed at the negative feedback without any further effort made to justify it. The F&C section is one of the few which manages to work on good humour and friendliness so we're all pretty defensive of that.

Also, putting IMHO at the end doesn't justify poor comments/feedback. IMHO.

I think the reason it looks so green is that the scene is mostly viewed through that greenish glass of the tunnel ...
so I think the colours looks spot-on and should NOT be further "corrected"

Great photo : like a killer robot-OCTOPUS

well I think its bonza

quite apart from the picture itself, which is really well put together, I think half the point of the posting is to display the output of a crusty old legacy scanner, which is just great

that was my initial thought, to be honest... and while I would be tempted to have a look at tweaking the colour balance, I wouldn't say for definite if I'd go for this rendition or a more "natural looking" tweak...

Ahaaa, so that's why my WB adjustment doesn't look right, I thought it was me having a stoopid sunday

Well...........I didn't even notice it was under tinted glass, I thought it was outside the tunnel, I mean I dunno, I've never been to the thing

half an hour i spent on that this morning trying to wb it...and failing......:ROFLMAO:

I'm not sure - having reread the thread - exactly what I should be commenting on. If anything.

Judged as a first scan for 12 years, it's very good indeed.

Judged as an image, again I think it's very good indeed.

But if I may comment on this thread instead.... I find it interesting that so much has been said about the accuracy of the colour balance, but nothing about whether the actual colours are correct for this image. I see more than a hint of the serpent's scales in it, and I associate serpents with green. The colour helps this. Sometimes, exact accuracy will transform a mundane subject into a mundane photograph, and I'd never worry about whether something is a considerable departure from reality (which is a quotation :D). I'd also suggest that perhaps, just perhaps, a little leeway might be offered to a posted photograph, and at least look at it as if it was exactly what the author intended. It just might be - and assuming that at the start might reveal things you'd otherwise miss.

That has to be one of the most photographed buildings, it is nice to see it slightly differently and as it sits I like it and would not change it :)

Where is it?

I know the OP as edit images marked as 'no' so I won't put up any adjusted image, but I threw the jpg for this into photoshop and did a quick colour balance and slightly graduated filter to compensate for the tunnel shadows a touch and I can say for a fact that the resulting image is really rather pleasing. If the OP would like me to post up my edit (it's rather minor) then I will, but otherwise I would encourage him to re-upload with the cyan colour cast being adjusted out :)

Also, I love city photography so this is totally my kinda jam!

...but surely that's how the OP wants his shot to look otherwise he would have adjusted it himself in Photoshop......remember he used noise reduction so he is not a newbie.

Anyway the reason why I don't bother with city shots of prominent buildings is too many have done the same thing before:-
