I need to replace my kit lens asap!

I have the Canon kit lens with my digital rebel XTI and it needs replacing , its collecting more and more dust behind the lens and i want better glass. The quality of my APO 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG MACRO is far clearer than my canon lens.

Any ideas of a replacement? , i do alot of landscape photography
 
I'll second the 17-40 F4L - it's a lovely lens and great for landscapes on a crop body. Virtually lives on my 50D. Alternatively the EF-S 17-55 gets glowing reports, but is even more expensive than the 17-40. The aforementioned Tamron and also the Sigma equivalent have their fans too, but I've not tried them.
 
The newer IS version of the Canon 18-55 is really very good, and much better than the non-IS version.

But if you want the best EF-S 17-55 2.8 IS is the one. Which I have :D
 
let me know if you find somewhere that does the tamron for £200ish. im in the market too, as i cant afford the canon.
 
Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 is what I use, can't fault it really! Got mine for £200 on here, prices have gone up a little since then, but you should still be able to pick one up for not much. Or there's the sigma 18-50 f/2.8 for a little less?

Although to be honest, if you don't need the f/2.8, the 18-55 IS is a cracking lens, I needed something faster hence the upgrade, buit if you don't you could save a fair bit of cash?
 
Well i'm not buying it now but i will before christmas thats for sure! , thankyou everyone for your suggestions
