I need help buying Flash Lighting

I currently use hot lights but I'm looking at going to flash lighting. I was looking at the Alien Bee's as well as Steve Kesser lighting that uses Britek lights.

I shoot with a Canon 1D Marks II and a Canon 40 D. I do a lot of studio/portrait lighting and weddings. I'm a bit lost when it comes to this lighting stuff so if you could tell me what I'm really needing that would be great.

As always money is a challenge but I'm looking in the 1000-1500 range.

Also any places to read up on these that would be great. :)

Welcome to TP :)

There's no problem with your budget, so that's a good start! The brands that can be confidently receommended are Bowens, Lencarta and Elinchrom. That is not to say that there are not plenty of others that are excellent, but these are the leading UK names for quality gear and an extensive range.

Have a look at them, then ask a few more questions. 400ws should be fine. Think about whether you need battery generators for location shooting.
