after buying a second hand D200 (body only) I need a kit lens for it, ive been using the 18-55mm that I got with my previous D40 and now have some dosh to buy one for the D200 ( so i can put the 18-55 back on the D40 and sell it )

I have seen the Nikon 18-105mm AFS VR for £200 and that seems a bargain, is that the going rate for kit lenses or is it cheap because its not very good?

are there any better offeres from the third party makers?
 
What about the 18-70mm Nikon AFS?I believe you can pick them up second hand around about £100.

I've got one and I love it-seems well built and makes the 18-55 feel a bit of a toy in comparison IMHO, Seems to stack up well against others in a similar price bracket(according to word of mouth on here and via the internet as a whole).

Depends what range you want really?
 
For the price of the 18-105 you could get a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8...well, someone had to say it ;)
 
You should be able to get an 18-105 VR for about £150 no problem brand new.

If you have £200 get a Tamron 17-50.

The Nikkor 18-70 is a superb bargain used.

Nikon's best DX lens is the 16-85 VR but thats out of your price range.
