i have a small tripod onto which i mount a camera with a wide angle lens, pointing upwards to take photos like this:

now i have a pair of cheap remote control buttons with a 5 metre cable to fire the camera - i want to modify, or replace one of the switches with a robust foot switch.

the foot switch needs to be simple - press down fire camera lift foot off - not fire camera. it does not need to be two stage as exposure and focusing would be manual and would be preset

it would need to be able to withstand grit, mud and and maybe a small puddle

plan 1) a suggestion as to where i could buy one - would need to have at least 3 -5 metre cable and work with canon 1d/1ds

plan 2) someone who is good with electrics here who could modify one of the triggers i have for me (i would pay all expenses + make if worth your while for your time)

any thoughts anyone? i would think that if we went for plan 2 who ever made it could sell a few for motor sports/football etc

Name across middle, totally wrecks it

Why is the left hand giving the middle finger and the other one two fingers up?

LMAO, Okay i'll be over there >>>>>>>>>> Okay?

But i don't like names in the middle of the photo. That's just me

mattyh - I want that animation in your sig so much

Back on topic, I have read what you posted properly and understand now. Hang on, wasn't i meant to be over the >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

In the old days, like matty say's, pneumatic bulbs did the deed, but in this age of electronictrickery.....I dunno.
I can't get away from......why ?

markp is your man, he made the remote timers on here.

why what?

the runners/ cyclist come towards me and i take their photo of their faces etc, and this is the type of photo that they will buy and that's how we make one revenue stream.

The second way to make money is selling photos to magazines / newspapers / stock and they often want more generic conceptual shots

- such as the one above, and this is why i need the foot switch - I'm already busy with the camera - i did do a test last week at an event and had two shutter buttons on the camera - but this was too much for my hands to do whilst focusing /zooming /framing - i just think that it would be easier with a foot switch

I agree, the shot was just an example shot to illustrate the type of shot i was talking about, grabbed quickly from the many for sale on my website

You have to have a front and a more generic conceptual shot of every competitor.
Sounds like it may be as tricky as the double shutter release, like patting your head and rubbing your tum, just need a set of cymbals between your knees:lol:
There was some talk a while back of an IR trigger, y'know, broken beam trigger..

not read it but its here

no not everyone - but the ones that the magazines would want would be the lead people - but i would also need the faces

the low angle shot could also be facing the people

the IR trigger could be a way of doing it - thanks

So are you meaning for the runners/cyclists to trigger the switch? Isn't that a bit hit or miss? Unless they are in a big group, and aren't actually looking where they are going?:shrug:

Plenty of systems use foot switches, how big did you need it? An old sewing machine pedal, tattooist pedal etc would give you hours of service.
