I'm hoping that people who know more about cars than I do (and that is just about everyone!) can help me here. I am in the process of setting up a business doing guided tours of the area in which I live for small groups, with me acting as their guide. Hence I need a suitable vehicle that will carry up to 6 adult passengers, comfortably. The two stand out vehicles in this category seem to be either a Ford Galaxy or a Seat Alhambra (2010-). Both seem to do well in reviews, both are roomy enough as far as I can tell. And both have enough about them for my guests to feel they are travelling in something worth travelling in, if you know what I mean! I will be doing a mixture of kinds of driving, including motorway, city/town and lanes.

But I have never owned either of these cars, and as I said, don't know much about cars other than what I need to, so if you have an opinion about either car, or an alternative, please let me know.

Cheers
Alex

They are the same car almost. I had a galaxy years ago it was the best car I ever owned. Never let me down.

As said basically the same car, another to add to the list would be the Renault espace, not really a Renault fan but the espace is a stunning g piece of kit.

Have a look at the reviews on the Honest John website. For your purposes it looks like, out of the 2, the Galaxy is the one to go for. Addison Lee cabs use these, so there must be something decent about them...

I'd be looking at minibus style with 8 seats. They'll be a lot safer as a mpv with 7 seats is usually 5 adults seats and 2 child seats. Adults' safety in the rear most seats is massively compromised in many of these mpvs.

Need a PSV for them

Check to see which is cheapest to insure for a commercial enterprise like yours - that'll probably be the safest.

A LandRover Defender 110 station wagon with extra seats would give your clients a better view over the hedgerows at some cost to comfort (and fuel efficiency!)

Don't you need some kind of special licence for any vehicle you are using for hire or reward? (Just asking, I have no idea :) )

No! But you might need special insurance. :)

It's not particularly relevant but the Galaxy was a completely new vehicle from 2006 and no longer shared a platform with the Alhambra. The current Seat Alhambra does share a platform with the VW Sharon though.

That aside I'd agree with Suz that the Galaxy's rearmost seats are a bit tight for adults and quite close to the rear of the car (from a safety perspective).

I'd be inclined to look at van derivatives - something like the Hyundai i800 -around £20K new, seats 8 plus some luggage space and has a 5 year warranty.

You dont say if the tours are photographic related or not, but with 6 adult passengers there wont be a lot of space for camera bags or even hand bags

to throw in the mix what about a 7/8 (or however many they have) seater Mercedes Vito, yes i know its a van derivative but still smaller than a minibus and probably not alot longer than a people carrier (though does have a shorter bonnet, so more space inside)

3 ferraris will carry 6 people and you can have a backup lamborghini for the luggage. Most sensible option in my opinion...:coat:

Tourneo or Mercedes Vito

Both are bigger than your average people carrier and will feel much more comfortable

VW t5 caravelle. Gorgeous (for a van!) luxurious, lovely to drive, and you can go camping in it on the weekends, as the seats fold down into a bed. The VW TDI engine is very reliable.

I have an older VW T25 Caravelle and it's none of those things . The twin sliding doors are nice though and the syncro transmission gives it traction almost to Land Rover levels.

there are plenty of jap imports to choose from if the age of the vehicle isn't too important

i have one of these and it's the most comfortable vehicle i have owned

plenty of space ( the reason we bought it ) with a large boot area unlike a lot of 7/8 seater vehicles

mines getting a bit long in the tooth now but there are plenty of newer alternatives
