I've treated myself to a Godox flash and X1 trigger, was going for an AD600 but that'll have to happen later in the year.

So I've got a pop up softbox (60cm x 60cm) which is a bit knackered, so want to treat myself to an octagon softbox.

Now I've got to decide what adapter to get, s-fit or Bowens fit, and what octobox to buy.

The Godox 37" at £30 seems like an ideal buy but is going Bowens mount a good move? Means I'll be buying the AD600 in bowens mount later in the year.

Is there any other things I should be considering? Was looking at Bessel too but they all seem to be S-fit..

S fit and Bowens fit are the same thing.

Ah this makes sense. Although why do Godox have two different adapters for speed lights?

Ome is for Bowens which for us in the UK is without doubt the most popular fitting there is, the other Godox speedlight fitting is Elinchrom which is well known but not as popular

The AD600 is available in 2 different mounts 'Bowens S type' and Godox's proprietary mount. It's denoted in the model no as AD600B.

As for soft boxes, here's my Garry impression; they're labelled up incorrectly or inaccurately because the people who sell them don't have s clue what they are. They're just box shifters and all they know is what they paid and the resale value. It doesn't matter to them if the box contains a softbox, flashgun, potato ricer or car polish, all that matters is how much profit and how many they can shift.

That Octobox could be a bargain or it might not be, it's worth a punt at that price though, depending what you're lighting it with of course.

I'm going to retire soon, but if you want to take over my role as an ascerbic and curmudgeonly old b*****d then you need to try harder:)

That looks very similar to the pixapro one I have, it probably is the same but with a different label, it's quite well made and is fairly easy to put up and down. Not a bad light modifier either :)

Thanks, managed to find a video on how to put up so now it's this at £30 vs Bessel pop up one for £79.

I hate decisions

For what it's worth, I have a Godox 60x60cm Softbox and the quality is very good for the price. I also have a Bessel pop up 60cm that started to distort after a few uses so it collects dust in a cupboard now. For £30 I'd certainly take a punt on the Godox Octa and definitely go for a Bowens mount. You'll never struggle to get the modifier you need in a Bowens fit.

I already had a 60x60 softbox buts its knackered.

Be just found a Photr umbrella style one for the same price..

Well if anyone's interested I bought a Photr 80cm octobox from Amazon with the appropriate flash adapter.

Arrived today, has an internal diffusion panel, feels really sturdy, takes some effort to put up. But seems really well made. For £40 I don't think I can grumble but haven't actually used it yet...

I have also bought one to use with my studio lights. Well made.
