dropped their camera? I literally have my strap tied around my wrist. Is there anything out there that will help me from dropping my camera?

I keep having the thought of dropping it & doing whatever I can to try to keep up with it while it drops to the ground in slo-mo.

I've never dropped mine, hubby will kill me :D, why don't you get a neck strap instead of a wrist strap, much more safer me thinks ;)

I have a neck strap but when I take it off my neck I wrap it around my wrist. I need a longer strap maybe.

I dropped my 30D which bounced off the walk way while I was on top of a 13 story building, by the edge. It was fine :)

I think you are more likely to drop it if you are paranoid about it, I don't tend to take mine off from round my neck unless I am putting it away.

i've dropped all mine bar the dslr and the slr many times

Years ago I dropped my Pentax 35mm film camera on a stone floor and broke the lens beyond repair.

Although my current dslr has a neck strap, I don't always like having my camera around my neck, often preferring to carry it by my side which is obviously dangerous from the point of view of dropping it and also having it snatched (I frequent some seedy areas on holidays). I found a sturdy length of chain, about 2ft length, with a strong clip at one end and a split ring at the other. It may be a dog chain - I got it from a market stall selling tools and gadgets, dog collars, leads etc. One end of the chain attaches to the camera strap where it loops through the body attachment. The other end attaches to my camera bag strap on some sort of loop, with a carabiner clip at a point near my shoulder. The carabiner clip doesn't slip and I can hold my camera at my side quite lightly. If I let go it stays put. I get some adjustment by moving the bag around. A few people have commented that it looks a good deterrent against somebody trying to take the camera, but that wasn't the prime purpose.

I havent dropped one, but I did slip on wet rocks with one camera round neck, the other over my shoulder. I had the reactions to grab at the camera over shoulder and save it, only the lens hitting the floor, not too hard, which sounds a bit wierd, but it was a cheap lens, that was insured and I could live without for a few weeks if I had to claim....not that I was thinking that at the time, just 'save the bloody camera'! I did, and the camera was perfect, but the lens suffered a broken filter and whilst always a bit 'soft' in focus, became considerably softer.

Ive never dropped mine but had a few near misses, my reaction is to save the camera, rather than my knees or elbows, I was with Mark (Whiteflyer), when he pulled his bag from the boot of the car and slung it over his shoulder, unfortunately the bag was open a little and his camera flew out, all three of us gasped, but thankfully it landed on soft ground and wasnt damaged just a bit muddy, Phew, it was a scary moment as we all, looked at it on the floor,

I've dropped/had it fall over/fell while carrying it a few times. They take quite a beating :p

Ok. Funny story.

My wife had been jealous of my D80 for a while, so one day, she got a wild hair up her ass and went out and purchased one.

I'm outside playing with it trying a long shutter shot on a tripod. Had it set on 30sec exposure, so hit the release and turned to walk away. The tripod handle caught my coat and over turns the thing! The D80 hits the concrete from about 6 feet up with the shutter still open.

I pick it up and it has an "err" on the LCD. I'm freaking. I eventually get it working again, but upon closer inspection inside, it has a huge scuff on the handle part of the body.

So what do I do? I switch out MY slightly used (un-scuffed) D80 body with hers. :D

I only recently told her this and I have never had an issue with the dropped body.

As Dave said I've dropped my 30D TWICE

The time Dave mentioned when it just landed in soft ground, and once before on concrete when the Tamron lens on it hit the floor first and just fell apart, but the camera was fine.

After the first time I did send it to be checked out, but I now know they are far more sturdy that I first thought.
