I like my food........but.

I would’ve thought washing that lot down with fizzy drinks was the worst idea. Water would be better?

I think I could’ve just about managed the ribs and the sweet corn.

Adam Richman (the original Man v. Food guy) did the same.

Trying that these days would probably kill me, otherwise I could almost be tempted to head up the M5!!!

I think the one bowl of chips and the burger would be doable for me.

I know the stomach expands but that meal was wider than him. Where did it go?

It occurs to me that such eaters will 'chuck up' after such a gluttonous meal........Bulemia (sp?) ???

Perhaps oddly, they don't (usually!). Some of the eating challenges have a "keep it down" period after the challenge itself is consumed. Some of the hot chilli challenges have a no face washing period too...

Nice starter, what was the main course?

There is another challenge he did (I'll look it up) where he asked for carrot cake afterwards, which wasn't part of the challenge itself.

Talking of chilli, I have a bottle of sauce made from Carolina Reapers in the fridge, probably the hottest thing I've eaten.

How this guy can eat 14 raw in a minute is beyond me. Again, unsettling viewing.

I don't understand how someone can eat so much food.
I like my food but as I've got older, I can't eat a big mea like I use to do.

I've always liked my food (not so much when I was a kid), but when I eat out I am truly shocked at the amount of food people eat. The portion sizes are just ridiculous and I'm amazed at where people manage to put it. They'll then follow up their monster meal with cake, dessert or ice-cream. It just makes me want to gag and Billy Bunter always comes to mind.

I will often have a child's meal if they'll allow it and if they don't I'll always choose something from the 'light bites' section or maybe just a starter.

I'm still almost three stone overweight though . . . :(

It's like those eat as much as you like places. Some of the piled high plates are just delicious. People don't eat that much food because they're hungry, they do it because they perceive the extra as free food.

What really (REALLY) bugs me is people at all-you-can-eat places piling their plates high and leaving a load on the plate. I'd like to see them charged double for what they didn't eat but took out of pure greed.

Yes. Take all you want but eat all you take. Hate food waste.

I totally agree with you.
This is something I never thought about until I first visited America, the portion sizes were far too generous, then it then got me thinking about how much wasted food they throw away every day. Then I started to think how much food around the world gets wasted on a daily basis and we still have people on this planet who are starvering!

Have you ever tried telling the people serving the food that you really don't want your plate piled high, they seem to have
one portion size and that's it, what a waste

Probably best not to get me started on how much of the world's resources America consumes with its greed.

Earth day one year average American waste and use chart business insider

You should see (maybe not) how much food people eat on cruise ships & ferries where it is 'inclusive'. We saw people piling their plates several times over. I enjoy my food but trying to eat as much as these other passengers do would make me ill...... The amount of food that gets consumed/wasted is obscene given how many people are starving elsewhere.

I find you can eat more by taking small portions and then running back to the serving area, burns a bit more off :D

I seldom have that much food in the house - never mind for a meal!!

IMO, there is absolutely no need for people to starve these days. I know it's not quite as clear cut as that but there is enough food for everybody.

This is of course, is a whole new debate.

Yup, was going to post the same thing. We did a cruise to the Bahamas out of Florida once and there were people onboard that seriously did nothing but eat for the whole trip. I’ve never seen so many obese people in one place. You do get sucked in to the “well I’ve paid for it so I might as well get my money’s worth” for the first day, but then most people throttle back (we certainly did). Not these people… they always had something on the go during the day and evening…..you could eat 24/7 with the room service option too. They wasted a hell of a lot too mind. We’d often see plates piled high with leftovers left outside the cabin doors in the morning. Just pure gluttony.

Never been on a cruise but have seen the onshore equivalent sometimes in a hotel with a combination food service i.e. sections of chef service and help yourself buffet sections.

As noted above the plates with almost a normal servings worth of food as leftovers was disturbing :(

What intrigues me, is how many of those doing so eat the same way when at home? In other words what proportion of their household spend on food ends up in the bin??? Are they the same people that complain that they never have enough money to buy quality food!

I cannot recall which one of the Douglas Adams books it is in but there was the holiday planet where you were weighed on arrival and other than your allowance(?) any excess weight at departure was surgically removed!
