Yes
But there must have been a fair few members out photographing the eclipse the other night. I nipped out and was setting up just before the full eclipse, (so that's roughly the time) when I saw something I'm stuggling to explain.

Anyone else see anything... erm odd?

I thought it was just me!! There I was, gazing at the moon........ and suddenly...... it started to go out. It was like some creepy film but real life??? Don't get it

You mean when it went orange???

Nope... nothing to do with the eclipse itself.

 been drinking, CT?

OK. I was just lining up the shot in the viewfinder. Jan was standing watching at my side. I was looking directly at the moon when probably a dozen bright objects in a shallow V formation suddenly appeared from the general direction of the moon descending and seemingly widening formation and dropping at the same time. I was somewhat taken aback, but my first thought was a meteor shower.

However, the objects suddenly swung North to our right and disappeared behind surrounding trees. Jan and I turned to each other and both said " What the.....?"

No engine noises at all. No lights on the objects themselves.

I knew I shouldn't have posted it. :D

hehe. What do you smoke?

Why didn't you take a picture?!

Aparently the US army created this 'potion' for use of GI's in combat during Vietnam. Just cos the pesky bearded hippies took it over does not mean it's bad for you.

Watch out for flashbacks tho :D

Close Encounters of the Cedric Kind :)

well, I've also seen some unexplained lights before. It was about 10 years ago when I was camping in Malaysia with a group of friends. There was about 5 of us walking in the woods at night when we looked up and saw this rod shaped light floating in the sky. Then it darted across the sky, and then zig zagged a bit, and then sped off in one direction with a little "whirr" sound. All of us saw it. It was wierd.

OK take the p1$$!

What made it weird was that the objects seemed to be lit from below. Thinking about it now, that was probably the sodium glare which is normally overpowered by the normal light of the moon. As I say, this was pretty well at full eclipse.

anyway, I do believe there are extra-terrestrial aliens out there. :)

Hey CT ... I wont take the p**S

Youre a bit too local & might have connections

Actually my bro sent me a pic he took of the moon on his cheap little Fuji p&s ... theres a silver/white object on either side. I didnt bother to ask him what they were, I pressumed them to be 'glitches' afterall his cam isnt the best.

You got anything to show us then CT?
..Ill show you mine if you show me yours :naughty:

:suspect: I believe there's a few round here:suspect:

Any discomfort in the Khyber CT?

I was sure you were going to write about you seeing Matty walking round in his mini skirt again. But instead it was just some prattle about UFO's

Well I'm the world's biggest sceptic on this stuff. ;)

I have no pics to show - the camera had just been set up on the pod at 700mm lined up on the moon. There's no way I'd have got a shot off in time and the formation was much wider than the FOV of the lens anyway.

tsk, flare, good quality lens cloths are what you need :naughty:

Well I won't mock, purely on the basis that I beleive there is alot more to this life than what is considered the daily 'norm'.

I'm surprised no-one has suggested birds as an explanation. :) They were really shifting though!

As for UFOs I dunno, but I'm sure governments right down here are putting stuff up there all the while that we'll be the last to know about. ;)

Well what was the infamous Monty Python line....

Hope theres intelligent life out there somewhere, cos there's b****r all down here on earth! How true :D

I'm 99.99% sure there is intelligent life out there, I'm just not convinced any of it has, or will, find its way here!!!

But without another explanation for some of these phenomena.... ?

I'd love to see something as CT has done - not sure what I'd make of it though being such a sceptic!

I had a similar experience, thought it was a metor shower, but the wife correctly identified it as a flight of (possibly migrating?) birds.

That is the logical explanation the more I think about it. :)

I did see a few shooting stars...or did i?

Going by recent accounts I would put it down to the Aurora Project. There have been a few sightings of this around the world. Pretty sure there is enough info around on the net about it.

Can you explain it a little more? Can you estimate their altitude? Their heading (try and estimate it from where you were standing i.e Norht, West etc,..)

Another guess would be that Skunkworks, a US Military development team, have, according to scientist that have worked there, actual UFO's on site. They have been there since the 50's. Could it be that they have understood them and have them in testing? or have they made a 'human' version?

There are countless unexplained happenings. I personally would look closer to home.

Remeber UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object. Not specifically 'Alien'.

When the Stealth Fighter (F-117) was unknown the amount of UFO reports went up by the bucket load. Dont be too surprised if it is something along those lines again.

King.

Well.. I entirely agree that a more Earth bound origin for these objects is the most likely, and assuming there isn't a more simple explanation.e.g birds, although I'm far from convinced on the bird theory.

Well.. I was standing facing the moon and it was roughly NW from where I was standing. The moon was just about at full eclipse and light levels were at their lowest point. When the objects first appeared, they seemed to become visible suddenly having descended from a greater height, there were 10-12 of them I'd say and they were descending rapidly in a rapidly widening very shallow V formation, but coming towards us at the same time.

On reflection, I'd put the fact that they appeared so suddenly down to the fact that they would have been roughly over Junction 9 M6 which is throwing massive amounts of sodium light upwards into an unusually dark sky (because of the eclipse). No doubt for the same reason, the objects seemed to glow with their own light- being lit from underneath.

As we watched, the formation swung to our right and disappeared behind surrounding trees., heading roughly North. The whole thing was visible for probably ten seconds - tops.

It's difficult to ascertain scale, but assuming they were lit by sodium light, they probably wouldn't be that large which adds weight to the bird theory.

Geese and Duck will fly in those sort of formations, but geese certainly never fly that fast. Duck will fly in the dark and will remain very active on more moonlit nights as the reflection from the moon on water enables them to find the water where they intend to overnight. Mallard are just about the fastest flying birds on the planet, (in level flight) so they're the obvious choice, although I have to say I've never seen them behave quite like that and I didn't see any evidence of wing movement.

That's as accurate as I can be, the whole thing was so quick. :)

they're aliens.

we need to build a warp drive before they'll notice us. :)
