Yes
..but I don't know how to light it.

Right, without giving away my idea.. the 'subject' is about 2 or 3 inches high, about 1 or 2 inches wide. I have no lighting set up at home except for my Nissin Di622 flash, and some standard home lamps etc.

I'm hoping to shoot it with a piece of blue card as a home made background, curving down to also sit underneath my 'subject', if that makes sense.

I have an idea of how this could look if lit properly and shot correctly, but I've never tried anything like this before (home lighting/product photography).

Any hints tips at homemade set ups?

An idea of exactly what it is you're going to be shooting could be helpful!

On a serious note, I think a little more info would be required such as is the "subject" reflective or not? Curved? etc :)

Curved, yes. Wouldn't say it was reflective. Kind of a matt finish to it if you will.

Dammit, this isn't going to be easy is it? Apologies for the lameness of this thread!

Failing that - try the flash in different positions, using bounce to soften (or another softening technique - some sort of diffuser etc) and maybe use some white or black card to reflect/kill extra light?

Also try blocking all light from the room, lowest iso, f18 all with the aim of decreasing the shutter speed for a long exposure, then just manually fire the flash at different angles. It can give very flat lighting and it also gives the effect of multiple light sources on reflective surfaces..

Excellent idea. Cheers. I've also just ordered the very basic Mini Studio Kit from the redsnapper website which I'll put to use.

I had a play around with a cardboard box with an old shower curtain as a background inside it, then cut holes in the side of the box, covered them with white shower curtain and fired my flash through them. Worked quite well, it was an idea I got from this forum a while back.
