Total novice, with just click and point experience but with a love of photography .. yes I know you've heard it all before ..

Anyway, I have 100 spare pounds and want to put it to good use.

Can anyone advise what I can buy within my budget in terms of the best camera for my cash?

Is second hand an option ....

You're help will be eternally appreciated

you could but me a present for £100:lol::lol::lol:

you can pick up a canon digital slr body ie 300D for around £100.00 then just get a cheap lens off tp or e bay for another £20.00 - £30.00 ish

a digital dlr will give you more options then just a point and shoot or a bridged camera

but £100.00 budget is a very limited budget to work with

It's a tight budget for a camera body...
If you want to make the jump to a DSLR have a hunt for a 2nd hand 300D on e-bay

what sort of camera are you after???

is film an option, quite a few bargains for the money your looking at

Not sure the OP wants to go down the dSLR route..

Perhaps they just want a compact that will take good photos :D

I see not how £100 would ever be enough for a dSLR + lens + bag + spare battery + card + cleaning stuff etc etc...the budget is too limiting...

discuss?

Assuming the OP is after a DSLR a 2nd hand 300D is the only thing I can think of that the budget might just stretch to (unsure of offerings from other manufacturers).

The only thing that would put me off this route is the 300D is getting on a bit now (relatively speaking) and is known to be prone to mirror actuator failure, which would essentially write it off.

I'd definitely want a shutter count before parting with any cash.

I personally would go for a Canon IXUS (75 or better) series compact, and CHDK hack it (google it, its easy) to shot raw and give super fast shutter speeds. The lack of a hotshoe is annoying though.

Thanks message 10 !

As a credit crunch, strapped for cash novice parting with loadsa cash isn't an option so a refurb camera to play around with is a great idea. Plus with the added warranty a little piece of mind also.

Will seriously consider these. Thanks again !

This takes about 20mins to fix if your handy with a screwdriver, paperclip and some glue ;)

You could always look out for a Fuji 9600 - they are still very capable and have dropped in price somewhat over the recent months.

For £100??

I think an ebay purchase may be the only way the OP is going to get something decent...if she can't save up a little bit more...

Canon IXUS 70 or Canon IXUS 75 get good reviews and have been going for around the £100 mark second hand on ebay...

hmm, im thinking film slr here. Much larger range of what you can get for around 100.... sometimes whole sets of kit!
