I've wanted a Canon 5dmkii since it was launched. I've been border line buying it second hand in the classified section for several months now as well but have always resisted the urge because I could never justify all that money coming out of my house deposit fund in one swoop. Now I see my maths teacher is wanting one and has told me about the interest free credit with Jessops. Grrrr... How do people resist the temptation to buy camera gear?

This tab has been open for the past day on my PC: http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/76383/show.html

I'm thinking see what April brings in terms of a couple of planned expenses and if all is well click the finance :nono:.

Nowt wrong with buy now pay later if you are sure you can afford it. I sometimes do it for stuff even when I have the readies available.

Nothing wrong with debt, just make sure it affordable.

...ps I'm in the same boat with a Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VRII + 1.7IITC

I got my d300, card, filter, 18-200, flash from jessops on finance...

Just make sure that you can clear it within the 12 months (11 preferebly) with the minimal payment I think they ask for and a 25ukp admin charge for completing early.

You get what you want now, to use. And possibly you can make some money back with it... hehe. I am still telling myself this last bit after 2 years...

If you do get it from there make sure you get it via Quidco or the like, 4% cashback = £91

Hey. You've got more restraint than me....I'd have done it (did it for my 2nd D700). Don't tell anyone....

BUsY Indians Tap

Only kidding. Great camera and my friend was in the dame boat. Gave in a month back and has never rejected it. He's on over time now.

If you want it now and have most of the cash then the 0% deal is a no brainer. It is designed to pay off the whole thing in the 12 months. With savings rates being so pants you may as well spend your money :)

Jessops 0% is dangerous! I think I'm about to use it myself after reading this.

If you can afford the repayments get it now, with the devastating news coming out of Japan the likelyhood is prices are about to shoot up.

Whilst Canon has only announced the closure of it's printer plant it won't be long before their camera factories suffer as well.

Get it bought and when you do say a little prayer for our Japanese friends in their hour of need.

If you are planning to buy a house within the next 12 months remember that the monthly payments will work against you !

However, with the situation as it is everything works against you as I am finding out !!

You could also look for an interest free purchases on a Creditcard? although you really must pay it all back within the allowed time or it will cost you a lot more. Then there would be more shops to choose from and you might get a better deal.

Of course it goes without saying only get finance you can afford to the repayments on.

Ive got a secret credit card that I use for my purchases, the wife is blissfully unaware of it, as long as I keep it paid off Im good

I'd do this. Like DrRusty said you can get it cheaper elsewhere and still have the interest free.

It is not 'secret' any more, what a good place to tell the whole world about it

the interest free 12 month thingy at jessops runs as..

minimum 10% upfront then a direct debit for the 12 months, so
£1,333.33, would be £133.33 instore and 12 months of £100.

but the great thing is you can choose how much you want to put down straight away with the remainder broken down.
so from 1,333.33 you could put down £433.33 leaving £900 and pay off £75 a month.

instore there are 3 ways of finance on the system, 24 month bnpl with something like 25% apr, 6month 0% and 12month 0%.

The process generally takes about 25-30mins,
if i was to get a 1D mark 4 through this i would only have about £8 left of my wage slip and jessops don't pay by calender month so i'd be properly screwed.

Jessops isn't as easy as they say with their finance. I think it has been mentioned on here a few times before.
I tried to use their finance last Saturday and was declined. I was gutted more about been declined for a few hundred quid than not walking out with the kit I wanted. I could think of no reason so I did some searches about their finance facilities and found that very few get accepted. They use v12 finance which appear not to do experian or exuifax checks but use someone else. I went to another retailer the next day and got exactly what I wanted over the terms I wanted. At least it restored my faith in my credit worthiness.

I thought it was (or used to be) desposit (usually 100ukp) then minimum payments (20 per month) and 25 admin to settle early.

Then you dunk all the dosh you would pay them into a high(er) interest account, time it so that you get the max you can come interest time in april ;) and pay off inthe eleventh month.

Guess its changed.

If you buy a toy on finance, make sure the term is short enough that when you are bored with the toy and want a new one, you aren't still paying for it.

I did this with a car. The loan lasted longer than the car did. Then it really sucks :(
