OMG, it is absolutely stunning. I have only tried it out in our living room tonight in low light conditions and it is truly outstanding!

Really do recommend it, such a good upgrade from the Sigma 70-200 f2.8.

Trouble is I now want the 105mm macro VR!

Great lens!

As for the 105 Macro, "Go for it!" I have one and can thoroughly recommend it. Its no lightweight either though. Got mine from Kerso in the summer.

Having recently moved out of the city, I am itching to get out with this and my 70-200 VR. Only early starts and dark nights are hindering me at the moment.

Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggghhhhhh!! :bang::bang::bang:

Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!!

I've just decided that my £1100 pounds should be spent on a D300 rather than a 70-200 AF-S VR. Don't go making me question myself again!

If I didn't have to justify it to SWMBO I'd get them both, but I can't see me getting the green light for that. :'(

I love my 70-200VR... it's really good in all the ways you'd expect but I can't believe how exaggerated the blur is at 2.8, and still sharp!

Great bit of kit :)

I got my 70-200mm vr yesterday. I agree with all of you. Great lens. I have the 105mm vr also. Must admit, I've only used it a couple of times. I really MUST make more of an effort....

Kev.

Although I'd love the VR, my 80-200 is so sharp I don't think I'll be changing that one. I am thinking about a 105VR though.

Same here, I have the 80-200mm ED also and the results are stunning.I cant really justify the cost to myself just to get VR.
I bet you cant wait to get out and do some shooting!!

I'll have a couple of hours daylight after work today so will definitely get out to test it some more!

NorthernNikon, what camera do you have at the moment? I really would stop and ask yourself that question again. I am truely amazed!!! Only Nikon lenses for me from now on!

I have a D70s. I shoot a lot of low light stuff (see my website) and if I didn't already have the 200mm f:2 AF-S VR I'd get the 70-200 f:2.8 AF-S VR but I think that the better low light auto focus and the improved noise at high ISO of the D300 will be more useful to me in the short term. Plus, having a second body will be invaluable. The 70-200's still on the shopping list, and I am toying with the idea of getting them both together to see if I can get a bit of a deal, but the hard thing is getting authorisation from our lass.

If I could swap my 70-200mm VR for a D300 body? hmmm.... that would be a very difficult decision indeed. Arrrgh. Thing is the D300 will devalue whereas the glass probably won't. I dunno why I'm bothered, it's no dilemma but if it were! ouch, it'd be a toughy given how nice the D300 is...

In NorthernNikons position I don't think there is a difficult decision at all. D300 or 70-200? Erm if I had a 200/2 I'd forget the 70-200 and get the D300 to match that beautiful lens...

The 200/2 is one of my dream lenses.

Pete

Yeah that's true, I'm just fantasizing about my own circumstances. :)

The 200/2 probably is one of my biggest desires too... mmmm...

[Gollum mode] My precious! [/Gollum mode]

Yeah, the 200 f:2 is wonderful. It's a beast though, hugely impressive in the flesh (glass?) but no good for hand holding for any length of time unless you're Geoff Capes on a good day.

I'm pretty much decided on the D300, the devaluation doesn't overly concern me as I'll get the use out of it. It's just wanting both that's the issue.

You have the 200 f2? Wow! Nice one!

70-200 2.8 VR is a class lens too!

Just bought a 80-200 f.2.8D AF for £400. looking forward to that! A massive improvement on the bigma I had... Will always have the 70-200 in the back of my mind though! :/

Don't worry, asside from the VR, the 80-200 is every bit as good as the 70-200. In fact from the samples I've seen I think the 80-200 is sharper.

Hope so! Only one question though, is that the 80-200 AF-S or the AF? Only I got the AF because the AF-S is rare as rocking horse ****!

I have the 70-200VR on my most wanted list. However I also keep my eyes open for a two-ring 80-200. They come up on eBay quite regularly so I may well buy one.

Wow great shots fella, I love the sharpness and colours

Thanks for the words. :)

What body do you have? I have a D80. I'm tempted to get the D300, but the track E36 M3 is also swaying me... :bonk:
