oh, and a small problem of nibbled cables, mice?:suspect: ... (couldn't have been bunnies!!!....) to actually finally get an engineer out! :bonk:

so! :woot: :woot: :woot: I can see bigger pictures!!! one post whore coming up!

Congrats.
Broadband is a one way trip. You'll never go back to dialup...

LOL. I never bothered much with the web in the dialup days - painfully slow. When I got Broadband it was all downhill from there - no life whatsoever and a complete anorak! :cuckoo:

I had a month on dial up recently, painful, painful :(

Dont think I could survive with dial up, it would be impossible to upload to the micro stock sites I submit to. Congrats on the broadband :D

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm:naughty:

Broadbands great, unless you have NOW wireless.
Dean:)

Congratulations, and welcome to the 21st century! :)

Broadband is great but i work for a telecoms company who put thier internet traffic over 8Gb fibres. Now that IS fast!!

As a matter of interest what company were you using, i gotta do the whole moving house/installation thing soon and looking for recommendations.

Hello, whole episode started with BT and Talk Talk, (really would advise NOT to go anywhere near Talk Talk if you value your sanity) than Orange and BT, Orange not much better, I have heard good things about waitrose as a broadband supplier, not the cheapest but very reliable.

hope this helps! :D

I use talktalk, their mail server is off more times in a month than I have fingers, really annoying. Might take up virgins offer of £10 broadband.

I have a couple of mates who are with talktalk, utter rubbish their mail server.

I went with Zen, A little more money than some but their service rocks..

When I got my first PC 3 yrs ago, (I was a little late catching up with everyone else :) ), I picked up an installation disc for Tiscali. I didn't do any research into ISPs cos I was impatient to see what I had been missing. After only a couple of weeks I found dial up tooooo slow so upgraded to BB. I haven't had any probs with it in fact I've just recently added the landline to the package.

£17.99 pm
Up to 8Mb Broadband (ie. the fastest speed available on your line)
Unlimited UK anytime landline phone calls

In October for just another £2 pm I'll also get Free line rental.

Incase you haven't realized, I recommend Tiscali.

Cable is always an option if you can get it in your area, my 10mb conenction has been great and its going to 20mb this summer.

How exactly do you define BB?

Down here we have normal dial up(:bang: )

ISDN - 128/264 0R SO Kb/Sec

ADSL - 1024 Kb/sec

And then wireless 3g on the laptop.

I was told the latter can do up to about 1.4 Mb/ sec or so but have never seen it going at that speed!

I think ISP's define broadband as anything over 512Kb/s, I seem to recall NTL getting there knuckles rapped for calling a 256Kb/s connection they offered broadband. Who actually makes the rules about all of this though I have no idea.

Most likely some puny little pimple-faced nerd kid in a room full of 'puters somewhere...

Congratulations. The fuss I had to go through on dial up was so bad. I had a dacs on my line which halfed the speed of 56k. So I was on 24ishk!

I went nuts when I could finally download at 6k. Now many years later I am downloading at 300+k

 At last.

Sorry to hijack your thread Ladybird, but after a year of suffering with Now broadband, i gonna make a switch. I was thinking of Sky, does anyone have experience of there BB services?
Dean:)

now i'm on with Orange, the service had beeen good, just their customer service that lacks something, SERVICE !!!!!!!

dino......talk to inaglo if you want the inside line on sky

Pfft - I used to pay a small fortune for wireless broadband (and I mean dish on the side of the house pointing at a mast some miles away wireless) and that was only 512Kb. I'm as far as you can get from my exchange - a few feet more and I'd probably have a different phone number prefix so I had to wait 5 years to get honest to goodness ADSL.

I'm with ukfsn.org and they're great - if they stop being great then I can get out within one month as they don't have an annoying 12 month contract
