I bought a new Camera on Thursday G9 to stick in my back pocket when I'm out riding.

Great. So today I set off on my ride, stopped, set up my camera on it's gorillapod for some self timer shots.

I press the shutter button, and the red battery indicator starts flashing. WTF I think, then remember the reason that the battery indicator is flashing, is that I haven't actually removed the charger from it's packaging, never mind charged the battery.

Anway, this is the only shot I took before the battery died.

 
:lol: thats one mistake you will not make again. Lets hope the weather stays good so you can get out tomorrow and fill the card.
 
Funny thing is with my DSLRs I wouldn't dream of taking them out of the house without checking their batteries are full.

Excitement eh?

at least youcan charge your batteries and go get some more shots
 
Well if you only get one shot then this is a nice one to get ..... nice bum, almost on a parallel with Brian O'Driscoll my lot in OOF-Land say :)

Lesson learnt I reckon but if we were being honest I reckon we would all have a similar tale to tell ... :suspect:

When I got back I was worn out. I chucked my bike tools in the cupboard. A few minutes later, I'm thinking where is my camera? I feared the worse. had it jumped out of my open pocket? Er no, you've just put it in the cupboard with your tools.
 
Awesome, except you appear to be riding off road with slicks and drop bars! Nutter! 2.5 inch tyres and 8 inches of travel front and rear is the way forward!

I just brought 2 spare batteries and a car charger for my G9 from ebay for £12 lol.
 
a pushbike is a pushbike ...dont try to glamorise them they cause pain and should be banned:lol::lol::lol:

Easily done. I've got into the habit of charging the battery as soon as I've finished using it, so the camera's ready to use straightaway.

I did a similar thing a couple of weeks ago. We had a good spell of weather and I decided to go and get some photos of the Forth Bridges (two of my favourite subjects), only to find when I got there that there was no memory card in the camera ... :( Luckily though I don't live too far away!
 
Looks suspiciously like a cross bike. An old team mate of mine always used to try to get me to race cross during the winter when I was testing. Too much mud an not enough carbon for my liking!!
 
I got all the way to Brunei with no batteries and no SD cards a few years ago. Luckily the camera work had given me ran on AAs and SD cards were quite cheap over there!
 
I took a camera out I was unfamiliar with a while back, took about 30 pictures , the camera was set to preview, problem was it was exactly that, you had to select keep to save it, when I got home I put the CF card in the PC and it was blank.

Can you still buy a dynamo for your bike, 2 miles riding should generate enough electricity for 20 pics:D
 
Worst ive done is forget the battery in the charger. I went to mate's birthday bash and I was designated photographer, If I am going to an event/gathering no one takes their cameras anymore because they know I will (talk about being used!). got to the party, turn on my camera to take the first shot and it wont turn on. I started panicking thinking WHY WONT MY PRECIOUS TURN ON!? then I remembered that I never took the battery out the charger.
 
Is the gorillapod any good? Forgive the tangent, but I've heard that it's essentially a gimmick and not much use to a 'real' photographer! They look like great fun though, so I'd like to hear what you think.

Well I'm a real (paid) photographer.

I bought it for fixing off camera flashes to trees for work. With my G9 it's fine as it's lightweight, and fairly sturdy if you set the legs wide. Probably not much use on a windy day though. If I was shooting with my DSLR I'd take my Manfrotto.
