Side note in passing from Pass Notes.. the cost of film processing leaves the ONS basket of goods and services for calculating inflation..

It's a wonder it remained part of the inflation basket of goods for so long.

Probably a quango of idiots set up by the last government.

"The 'shopping basket' of items making up the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) and Retail Prices Index (RPI) are reviewed every year. Some items are taken out of the basket, some are brought in, to reflect changes in the market and to make sure the CPI and RPI are up to date and representative of consumer spending patterns. This article describes the review process and explains how and why the various items in the CPI and RPI baskets are chosen."

Nowt to do with quangos, the current idiot government or the last idiot government. How woeful it is that the nation's understanding of politics and the economy has been reduced to soundbites.

.. .. When I were a lad, changes to the inflationary basket of goods were on't six o'clock news, between miner's strike an' new regulations agin' child chimney sweeps. You could get a chimney proper clean then, not like now .. ..

Well I remember the good ol' days when there wasn't VAT...the modern curse for everyone.

Many a true word spoken in jest, my chimney sweep has to use brushes and a giant vacuum cleaner since they stopped him giving children gainful employment. But the quality of the clean is not a patch on the old fashioned way, you need the children's tiny hands and brushes to get into all those nooks and crannies.

Apologies Alastair for going completely OT, it is an interesting and surprising fact as is the inclusion of foam sweets in the nations shopping basket.

What's the point of putting foam sweets in the basket though. doesn't everyone buy the big bags from the pound shop? How does a constant price of £1 indicate inflation?
