I borrowed a D70 and the pictures are very wide

I used a D70 a while back, I didnt get to play with everything on it but when I look back at the pictures they are very wide.
3008x2000 to be exact.
Using bridge I can see that the lens is an 18-70mm lens but im sure the actual lens doesnt have anything to do with the picture dimensions.


Is this something that is a setting, like a widescreen mode or something else.
Im getting a Canon 400D and it would be great to shoot some pictrues similar to the ones on the nikon.

Thats a 3:2 ratio, most dslr's are that, compared to a digital compact which most, dont.
If you look at the print in PS, you cant crop to 10x8 as a natural size, but you can crop 9x6.
so the picture will seem wide/tall if you are used to compacts etc.
The pictures on a 400d are 3:2 as well.
