Hi, little advice please.

I am trying to change the hard drive on a Dell inspiron 9400 laptop to a SSD but the SSD was taken from my computer and I did not format it so windows 7 will still be there I assume but I need to load windows XP onto the laptop.

After installing the SSD it seems the XP cannot find it and again I am assuming because it still has Windows 7 on it.

Is there a way to get the laptop to see the drive without having to format it first?

Would a program like a disc wipe software work?

Any help?

Thanks

Check your BIOS to ensure you have enabled AHCI mode first.

Confused.
your ssd has win 7 but you want xp loaded instead?
or your existing boot drive has XP on it and it cant see the ssd when its added?
I presume your ols drive isn't ssd in which case I'd clone the hdd to the ssd. My backups and maybe an image of your existing system first.

Hi, Thank you for the replies. I found a free software that erased the SSD and allowed the install of XP.
Why XP? I have a 1DS MK II and the laptop is the only thing that has a firewire connection and XP to allow changes to be made within the camera, ie 5 or 7 activations when AEB is required.
Thanks again
Russ
