As the years roll by and the advances in technology get better and better I am in awe.
One example , My printer , It is a good few years old , Maybe 10 + and I have abused it several times by leaving it for long periods without printing.
It is a Canon Pro 1000 , I keep seeing comments on line saying you must do a print at least once a week preferably twice a week
I have left it for over a year maybe more due to health reasons and not getting out much.
Also I recently changed my computer from an 11 year old iMac to a new M3 iMac , old one was a wired connection , New one is wireless ( :$ )
don't tell me I now need a new printer as well ?, I then looked on line to see if the pro 1000 was wireless and low and behold it is .
Now filled with terror at the thought of getting it working wirelessly
Long story short eventually I did it , Main reason I could not get it to print was that numpty me had not downloaded the driver from the Canon web site , DOH !
Thought I had better switch on the pro 1000 and get ready for a menu of faults , I was surprised it did not give a list
Basically it went into recovery mode , Things kept popping up on the screen saying things like agitating inks and it then made a buzzing / rattling noise
I could hear things happening inside / sliding / Buzzing / clicking this went on for about half an hour then it stopped and displayed ( Ready to print )
So I thought OK let's give it a go at doing a nozzle check and off it went , I could see no faults so did a basic print and that came out good as well .
To say I was surprised was an understatement .
Next thing I noticed the screen said I could upgrade the firmware , Tentatively I pressed the OK button expecting it to never work again but it did , Yay :giggle:
To say I am amazed by the tech is an understatement , Thanks Canon and Thanks the Tech people who make these things work.

Speaking as someone who dosen't understand why electricity doesn't spill all over the carpet when I un-plug the telly, I am constantlt amazed by what technology allows us to do.

Pretty much the same here. I've worked around Radiology for the last decade or so, and watching people do detailed reports using voice recognition *still* makes me feel like I'm in an episode of Star Trek :)

Make sure you turn the socket off and turn the plug pins-up as soon as you unplug it.

Two more things I read about regarding the Pro 1000, The printer automatically aligns the paper making sure it goes through straight and
when printing the printer creates a vacuum under the paper insuring it is held down when transitioning through , It does this to avoid
The paper coming into contact with the printer head . All very smart :)

In the early 60s my father owned a TV repair/sales and appliance shop near Plymouth. When visiting customers for repairs etc. it was quite common for him to find a "curtain" over the TV so that the studio could not see into the home.

I suspect many had read or at least knew a little about Orwell's 1984 in those days.

How quaint. Repairing TVs. :D

Still do it, but oh how different :)
Used to have to wait while the valves warmed up, now you have to wait while the system boots up!
It feels like there was a sweet spot of about 20yrs where TV’s reacted immediately.

We had a box of various valves and if the telly stopped working we would swop valves around until it fired up again!
