...because it is dark, cold and wet, there is no colour left in the trees. What kind of politicians did decide to invent winter? As if austerity just wasn't enough... I demand they are named and shamed and sentenced to forced labour in Siberian gulags.

I hate darkness. It gives me depression and outrage. And I am even more outraged because I can't see an easy way to go to Santorini and Venice for a few days.

So you don't need to get up at stupid o'clock for a sunrise, you can shoot sunsets and be home in time for tea, there are fewer tourists to get in your way and there are no midges! Sounds like a result to me.

One thing I love about England is the variations of seasons... You get the joys of spring, with everything starting to grow, life developing and warmer longer days after a cold spell. You get the heat (sometimes) of summer followed by the nice autumn temps with Christmas and winter to look forward to. The last 2 days with blue sky have been lovely with that crisp clean air. Plus as a keen cook, its great to get those stews and slow cooked stuff going, while you have salads etc... in summer!

Saturday. Sunrise was not worthy getting out of bed for. A82 was still infested with 20-plenty pensioners. Everything is now plain brown it is honestly all over unless it snows (snow, frost and sunshine would really work wonders in the morning!). Ballachulish at 15:40. Half-decent sunset - OK, but not a wall-hanger or blockbuster mega-seller. On the way back A82 was again full of slower-than-ever traffic. One was doing 25mph max because perhaps it was dark and it rained heavily and her micra was half submerged in water in places.

Sunday. I tidied up the house, had some lunch and left for Newcastle. Weather was worse than expected and I just barely made it in for the blue hour after heavy misunderstanding with goole maps navigation. All light was gone very quickly, while it was still early enough to cost me for parking (on Sunday evening for crying out loud FFS!!!!). I was home at 11PM after a stopover in Edinburgh.

All this week is all pretty much rain rain rain. I am thinking of going to see Nutcracker to keep me entertained. :) The furthest I'll go next weekend is probably Edinburgh.

I'll take take the midges and sunshine please.

I've been looking forward to winter since last season. I haven't gotten out with the camera at all during the summer nights. Not even for a bit of light painting and wire wool. Finally now this season I can hopefully get my hyperlapse and timelapse film finished.

Stop wingeing you lightweight, it's only just begun, it might be crap weather but it's British crap weather and as such probably the finest crap weather you will find anywhere.

Booking.com Easyjet, jet2, lastminute.com laterooms.com groupon...

I am outraged its so easy to get away for a holiday.

If you don't like our weather why live here?

Your outraged …….. I'm more outraged than you, come back to the UK and sat around discussing son and daughters wedding plans and it's p1ssing it down

Just keep taking the pills

Is anyone more outraged than me?

Your son and daughter are marrying each other?? Do you live in Norfolk?

Now I'm outraged!!

But are you more "outraged" than me …….. do you realise how much weddings cost, I'm even outraged at the cost of the "Wedding Photographer"

At least I'm only paying for one wedding, my daughters, I'd be even more outraged if I have to pay for both

Life is really outrageous, I've just got the electricity bill …… bloody outrageous

My wife has just brought me my "only allowed" one chocolate per morning with my coffee …..f……..ing outrageous

I can only find flights to Rome and Barcelona apart from a few hopeless locations. I might have to take that and just get on with it. I have no intention of spending 2 days traveling to location to spend there 1.5 days.

Happy to avail yourself of this apparent ease though eh?

Rome will do ok as will Barcelona. What is wrong with there. Jet 2 fly Edinburgh to Marco Polo - you should be able to do Venice that way. Try flying out of Manchester, theres a train Glasgow - Manchester Airport operated by First Transpennine. If there is a will, there is a way. Rome from Prestwick is easy.

I know.

Get a temporary handle on your mockrage at that point did you?

Away from Britain and they concept that rich people should pay for better houses for poor people live in than they the rich people live in. I escaped the concept that we should import labour from abroad whilst endorsing our own people with a something for nothing benefits handout that allows them to sit around and be lazy, it was great!!!

Answer the question Steve, without resorting to anti poor / EU / benefit recipient dribbling.
You posted this......

If it so outrages you, doen't availing yourself of the same opportunity make you somewhat of a big fat hypocrite? :cautious:

Spent the last 4 years in the tropics where winter means it just gets cold and damp and everything goes mouldy. Some frost and autumnal color is a welcome change.

Jet 2 thing only start from may next year. Easyjet and Ryanair have the same philosophy for many of their routes. Rome is certainly doable, but I doubt it is as exciting as Venice (I've been in Rome). Barcelona scares me because of language troubles. Madrid was the very worst place I've been to considering I can't speak any spanish. A friend just came back from Barcelona and he said the same thing. Maybe I need to go to Rome for longer, hire a car and drive around the countryside. That would certainly do.

Romes too busy for my tastes but as you've been before and theres lot of architecture and blue hours at pleasant times of day you'll know what you want to shoot and when.

Go all out, a weeks break to NYC? Lots of blue hour shooting to be done.

If we have to face winter, at least make it worth our while by being a bit more seasonal in nature with actual frost and snow. It got a bit tiring last year with the relentless rain and stormy winds.

NYC is certainly one place I don't want to come back to. I can't handle gritty urban tight spaces and even more so 8 hour flight one way. Last time it took me 3 months to recover.

Paris would do you ok. Even London. Can't go wrong.

Done both. Paris is really not bad, but I really struggle to get the most out of big cities - my thing is smaller places and the open landscape.
