Hurry Up. Many Cameras for sale

Blo**dy hell thats alot of money its currently at. I dont anything about film so is this quite cheap or rather expensive for those cameras?

A exc++ condition F2AS body could be worth easily several hundred of that £800, and Nikon F and F3 bodies still retain their value well.

Probably about right but I can see it going up in the next 20 minutes.

The 90%+ vast majority are worth very little. There was significantly more consumer crud created than top quality cameras, which is what the listing was chock full of. But I know you were also making a humorous comment so I won't be too serious

It's also harder to find great deals in shops where the owners have no idea and just "guess the price" now that more people know that ebay exists ;)

You and me both mate! £1221 they went for!

:), Im putting you on the spot now and i know this is the film not digitial section but what digital Slrs would you consider top quality cameras as i maybe wrong here but i assume that the latest crop of Canon Nikon etc fall into the category consumer crud?

anything single digit probably qualifies - that said, they move along so quickly that the resolution of the oldies is not going to compare well in another 10 years...

that's the thing with film cameras - even the old stuff can take advantage of the latest quality improvements in the "sensor" (i.e. film) technology - whereas a old digital camera has a old sensor, and is stuck with it.

Even the performance of what people call "entry-level" DSLRs is, in my opinion, absolutely fantastic. I shoot with a D7000, but regularly play around with a D3100 with the 18-55 kit lens and it is a top piece of kit. I have no doubt that the Canon 600D is as capable. Canon and Nikon know their markets, know their technology and have their craft down to a fine art, so I wouldn't call any of it consumer crud. I learnt all my basics on a D40, a camera that I had much admiration for.

Film... I'd say the vast majority of APS cameras were not very good, a lot of the stuff that came out of the USSR had varying quality issues (not all... just some), there are plenty of badly designed point & shoot compact cameras (and there are plenty of stunning ones - the Olympus XA, for instance) - and the biggest issue is that if you are going to stumble into a film camera, it is far more likely to be a poor quality consumer camera, as they would've sold in significantly higher quantities than any pro camera (or prosumer camera) of the day. The poor quality remark is also based on poor quality - the vast majority of the cameras in that listing will still be within factory tolerances, and if not they can easily be brought up to factory tolerances by a skilled technician. But many of the more plasticky and more electronic reliant film cameras are often write offs if they develop problems.

Getting rid of the Nikkormats, which nobody really cares much about, that leaves eight. Of those, we have an FG and FA - meh. Two F2s, one of which appears to be shabby, same with the Fs. That leaves a good F, a good F2, a good F3, a good FM2 and an FM with some missing lettering. So four good cameras at 300 squid a shot and some dross. I am not knocking Nikkormats or later SLRs at all but their second hand value is low atm (and the FMs are probably worth about 50 each). Or am my valuations way too low? Hope so because if they are I have some bodies worth a few quid...

Oops, with all that adding up I think I missed my point - which is that 1,221 is not that much of a bargain.

I'm not knocking them, just saying that their second hand value is low and that ten of them contributed to that 1221 quid price tag. The only cameras in there that were worth more than a hundred quid each were the good F, F2 and F3.

IMO it is not much of a bargain at all - but it's Sunday night. That at least partly explains the inflated price.

Wow, thats erm, rather a collection of various Nikon film gear. Amazing find.
