I moved house this week to one that has Virgin cable installed so we opted to go with one of their packages. In my old house we just had a Sky dish (Freesat). This new house also has a dish on the wall with the cables there waiting.

Now I already have loads on my Humax that I would still like to watch so I thought it would be a simple job to connect it up to the spare Sky cables and plug the box into HDMi2 (the TIVO is in HDMi1). The problem is that as soon as I fire up the Humax it only lasts 10 seconds before the screen goes blank. I can switch to the TIVO and all is fine but as soon as I try the Humax again it's just a few seconds and gone. The machine isn't shutting down and I can still change channels on it, access the menu etc but not actually see anything on the screen, just on the display on the front of the box. I have tried swapping the leads around with the same results.

I don't want to record to it anymore, just watch what is already on there. Any suggestions on where I might be going wrong?

Presumably the dish and cable is okay? Pointing in the right direction and no obstructions on line of sight?

Does the humax have a signal strength meter in the settings menus?

Presumably it worked okay pre move? Have you replicated the same setup you had previously? I.e disconnect the TiVo and use the same port etc.

Did the humax get bashed at all in transit?

What is being lost? Do you mean the TV screen goes blank like the HDMI connection is broken or do you mean the menus still work on the Humax but you don't get live video after 10 seconds?

I've no idea about the dish but it does point in the same direction as others in the road. There is no strength meter although I recall there is a section in the menu that tells you details of the set up etc. Problem is I can't see it.

I'll try to dis-connect the TIVO and try that suggestion but I'm pretty sure it didn't get jolted in transit. I'm also going to try removing the Sky leads later but her indoors is watching TV at the mo so I can't get near it :)

For the first 10 seconds I can see an image on the TV screen but the screen then goes blank as if its just switched off, but hasn't. I get no picture at all after that. I tried starting the Humax with the recorded list on first and that flashed up for a few seconds and then vanished.

So.. something wrong with the connection to the TV. Do you have another TV you can connect the Humax to? It doesn't need to be connected to the dish to test if you can keep the menu screen on for a minute or so...

Does the SCART connector work?
