Hi all, I'm Matt.

I have recently bought myself a new camera and was looking for a website to get some good info/feedback. for example i haven't ever used editing software so would like to get some info/tips on which ones to use etc so will be looking through other threads.

I have a Nikon D3100 with the kit lens and a few extras like lens filters and a wide angle attachment for the lens. My camera is nothing special in comparison to most of yours i'm sure but enjoy it and learn with it all the same :)

Thank you!!

Peace :)

p.s. if you saw a drowning person and was given the option to capture the moment or save them, which aperture would you use?

Hey matt, welcome. I have a d3100 that I use as a backup encase something Happens to my 5100, I shot with it for several years and absolutely loved it. It's a very easy to use camera. I only use adobe Lightroom 4.4 or adobe Lightroom 5 (recently got it and love it!) unless I need to physically fix wrinkles or such in Photoshop. You can shoot jpeg or raw (nef) and there's a bunch of tutorials on Lightroom too. Once you figure out how to edit pictures and import it has become your best friend. Raw gives you a bunch more control of what you can touch up and fix. I shot in manual mode all the time with that camera. I used my 35mm or my standard 18-55 for the longest time once I started out, now my 18-200mm is my best friend. I always used to say once I got bored and thought it's time to upgrade cameras, because I felt I mastered everything. Get a new lens for the type of style you wanna shoot. I was blown away from the quality of the lens vs what the shell can do. If there is anything else I can help you with, let me know. Have fun shooting with your camera,
David
