How would you recommend I print these?

I've just returned from a trip to San Francisco and took quite a few shots whilst over there. I've shortlisted down to 2-3 images that I am planning to get printed for hanging up on my walls at home. These are them:

Highway 108

Yosemite Lake

The first 2 (Golden Gate & Highway 108), I'm thinking of printing large (66" x 25" (165cm x 62.5cm) - not so sure on the Yosemite one, maybe 24" x 20" or similar.

For the panoramas, I was hoping to get these printed in a similar way to some photos I've seen in galleries in the US. These were Peter Lik and Rodney Lough Jr., both of whom seem to print on a high end Fuji Silver paper which gives amazing colour, especially when a light is directed at the photos.

I've just read about printing directly onto Aluminium (http://www.printlounge.co.uk/page/alloybox) - not sure if this would give a similar effect or if I should stick to something like a Giclee Fine Art (http://www.loxleycolour.com/gicleeprints.aspx)

Finally, who do you recommend as a printer? I've seen quite a few recommendations for WhiteWall and Print Lounge - I would normally default to Loxley, but I'm not sure they can print this big (still waiting for confirmation)

thanks as always

giclee is just a poncy name for inkjet

if it was me I'd get them printed on a fibre based paper by inkjet but you'd need to find someone that did it that big.

I really like the people at The Print Space in East London. I doubt they are the cheapest but they know what they are talking about and are very helpful. I don't know if they print as big as you want but they are worth considering.

Thanks Ian - I'll take a look at them - tbh I'm happy to pay for quality as they'll be 'showpieces' at home

I've had a few photos printed on the Fuji Silver Paper and with the right colours they look superb.

You could always get a them printed at a smaller size on the Fuji paper and see what you think.

That might be a good idea - would you say the colours in my pics are right for Silver paper? The ones I've seen in the galleries were gob smackingly good and almost 3D

I think they would ALL be amazing on the silver paper.

Im not sure, but some great images, well done! worthy of my 100th post :)

That is why I suggest a few smaller test prints. They aren't expensive.

Jeff - all I can say is that I printed this photo on the pearl paper and it looked fantastic.

My GF's blue dress just shimmers.

Again as they aren't expensive at small sizes get a small one and see but if you have the right colours it will look great.

Jeff I bet her eyes will look (as Craig Revel_Horwood would say) A-May-Zing.

Yes please let us know.

Excellent news Jeff.

Remember as Pearl paper is very glossy, when framing do not let plain glass come in contact with the surface - either NR glass (which will then diffuse the sharpness) or use a mat or overlay which will make an airgap.

Mounting it flat can be tricky too - mounting onto card with hot or cold mounting will put a slight "orange peel" on the surface. Its best on foamex or dibond.

HI Sam, thanks for the info although I have now ordered another in the Pearl finish. If you look at my photo above you will see the mount is part of the print so wouldn't be able to use a seperate mount board, do you have any suggestions as to how to display these in a frame.

jeff

you could look into getting a spacer in the frame to hold the print away from the glass... framers use if for shadow box frames...
