How would you light this please?

I have a scenario for you guys;

The room you see below has been sent in to me to give me a visual of where my next group shoot will take place this weekend.

7 subjects ranging from around 16 - 60yrs
Preferred background clean (perhaps white)

My equipment;

3 x speedlights, 3 x umbrellas, gels, camera, tripod (all wireless).

NOTE; I have asked if the ceiling is white and they answered yes but the ceiling is quite tall.
I have read about bouncing bare flash into the ceiling either side of the group (not sure where the 3rd flash would go). Is this the best option for me??

I used to have 2 speedlights through umbrellas either side of the group aiming straight at them but haven't got the best exposures. Some well lit, others not etc.

I also can't imagine I am going to be able to light the group and have a nice white background with just 3 speedlights.

What would you do if you had my equipment/scenario please????

I'd bring the sofa forwards. Shoot 2 lights from the side and on from behind me angled down and wait for them to gasp as I got a perfect black background :)
 
As above I think a low key photo will serve you best
 
so a black background will be created if the sofa is far enough away from the wall due to the light fall off?

would you have all 3 lights with umbrellas attached?

you wouldn't use the ceiling even though its white? does the height mean the light can't provide a suitable exposure?

That and not pointing lights at it.

If that's what you've got. Easier with softboxes but doable with umbrellas and maybe some bin bags and gaffer tape.

It's more about control. Dark b/gs are all about control. Point a light at a big white ceiling and it's going to go everywhere (that's why lots of people do it) including places you don't want it.

BTW: this isn't easy.
 
Sorry I can'y help you with this.
Just wanted to say thanks for posting the thread. I looked at the image and your description and without looking at any answers just went blank. I just couldnt see how this could be done in such a tiny space.
So it is great to hear some of these answers. I only fool around at home with my speedlights and softbox but I find it very difficult to contain the light from going everywhere.
