Yes
I have posted this photo on a few places and been told its been to tightly cropped, just wondering how others would go about cropping it if at all, top photo is the original bottom one is the cropped version.

not the lower way, assuming your not bother by the ratio I would do it 21:9 losing some of the sky and grass, keeping the whole body of the plane in the image.

To my eye you are losing too much of the plane's nose. It seems disconcertingly close to the edge of the frame. I would crop to see less of the foreground grass if you can, but its all down to how YOU see the image.

I argree the second crop is too tight, personally I'd like to see all the plane, but as you haven't got that do what the other comment says and loose the sky/ground a bit

like this for me.....

after a slight straighten. Already lost both wingtips and the tips of the rear fins, and don't have all the parachute. So crop tighter to make it look like a deliberate close up.

Space in front to "move into", and both bulbous enginey things on the wings for balance.

I would keep the full width of the original but rotate slightly anticlockwise so that the runway becomes horizontal.

That would result in a very small strip of image on the sides being lost but would greatly enhance the feeling of motion of the plane.

Then I would crop both top and bottom so the result is a 16 x 9 proportion, which will also add to the dynamic of the subject.

Oh, and as I think Graham is suggesting you could do a number of additional cropped versions which are much more heavily cropped as if telephoto close-up shots.

There's some great lighting in your photo and the textures of the aircraft are exciting (at least they are to me!).

Graham posted while I was writing.

Similar* to as he has done, perhaps a tiny bit more accurate in being horizontal, and crop the sky to result in a 16 x 9 more sexy HD proportion. Try it, I'm confident you'll like it!

* You don't have to crop quite so much off the lefthand side when making the shot horizontal on the runway. The more of the brakechute centre you can show, the better.

:D It seems some of us are making the same suggestions but simultaneously. I just did mine.......

May I use it as my facebook Cover for a bit, please? I'll credit you in the first Comment box. Got a Spitfire Cover at the moment and the Vicor is one of my favourite aircraft.

In your opening you say that you have been told its, “too tightly cropped”.

The question I would ask myself is, are they referring to the image crop in PP, or the in camera crop, that has left the ends of the wings out of the shot?

Rhodese.
