Ive tried selective colouring which isnt very good but i must say it would have been easier if she'd have dyed her hair beforehand, plus for the time you've waited for a reply she could have dyed it and you could have reshot the pictures.

One way is create a new layer above the pic, paint over the roots with the same colour as the hair, then set the blend mode to muiltiply and lower the opacity to 20-30%, it should add enough colour without affecting the image and making it look fake.

Give people a chance, a couple of hours is not long.

In PS you could try - burning over the affected area or creating a new layer, painting with a colour similar to hair and setting to hard light and reducing opacity - then maybe burning a little or repeat until you are happy

Done all of that, looks horrible and fake. I even resorted to the colour replacement tool but it can't replace dark colours that well and just make it look black and white.
I'm not an idiot at PS, been playing around with it for a few years but this is annoying me now lol... its a good photo and doubt I'd get something like this from her again.

 Your right lol, wasn't really a planned shoot though.

I can understand youre trying to get around it as i think we've al;l been there.

The only person i know that could get round your dilemma is on the DpR site in the Software / Retouching Forum.

If you post it there, they will jump at the challenge. Plus tell you how

Burn tool...

After ~ 60 seconds in PS:

First, new layer, blend mode colour. Pick colour from the hair you want and paint over (I did it roughly)

Duplicate this new layer, place it above, blend mode multiply, set opacity to suit (roughly 60%)

Ctrl+click to select the pixels from the colour layer, New Hue/Sat adjustment layer with this as a mask, drop saturation a little.

New Curves adjustment on top with same mask, darken shadows and brighten highlights

If I was really going for it, I'd dodge in some new highlights, but I'll leave that to you.
