How/what would have made this a better shot?

I took this shot of a group of Monkey Puzzle Trees on Hergest Ridge, to me it looks like very ordinary, how could i have improved on it? I have only been taking photo's with a DSLR for a little over 12 months but i feel that this shot could be greatly improved upon. All ideas welcome.

I would have probably got closer and down low, looking up with a wide angle lens, or made more use of the shadow from the one on the right. Have the shadow lead in from the left of the frame, but much closer than you got, even if it meant loosing some of the other trees.
Hard to say without seeing the rest of the surroundings.

Thanks all, just for info the trees are on a hill top with nothing but views to the distance all round, when I venture back to this place I'll take your advice and try to go much earlier or later in the day. Im sure there's a good photo to be had at this place.
