So, soon i will be shooting football and of course it could (probably will) get cold and wet.

How waterproof is my equipment? I have a D90 and Sigma 70-200.
Im guessing the answer will be not very much....

So how do you go about protecting them in the wet weather?

I use a Stormjacket SLR Large, not cheap (£40) but considering it was protecting over £2ks worth of equipment it seemed a small price to pay. My D90 was used at sand racing events and more soaking wet circuit races than I can count, yet still looked spotless when I sold it recently and never had any issues with water, dust etc.

Very quick to fit and remove, comfortably the best accessory I have bought.

D90 not waterproof at all,a few splashes would probably be ok,but you need a waterproof cover really.........

Why not try making your own... You can buy a cheap unlined pvc type waterproof jacket for about £10. Cut one of the sleeves at the shoulder which will be wide enough for your hands to access the camera and as the sleeve tapers towards the cuff it should make a snug fit over the lens/hood, - even better if the cuff is elasticated or velcro adjustable.

the sig 70-200 isnt waterproof. it might take a light shower at your own risk but something like a stormjacket, freezerbag ghetto cover etc depending on budget will do the job.

Op/tech do a glorified freezer bag that has a pull tie at the end for the lens and a hole cut in for the eye piece. It's big enough to get your hand in as well.

I used them at a very wet Glastonbury and there were pretty faultless. If you look after them they should last a few games at least. I think I paid around £7 for a pair in a pack off of eBay.

Personally I wouldn't risk not having cover. I've shot football with Canon 1D cameras and L lenses and even then, during really heavy rain throughout the match, I've had issues.

I made a couple out of some old waterproof trousers. the ankle end is elasticed and also a velco fastner. the other end I cut to length.
