I have just started the Digital photography course with the open university, and part of the course is to share your photos with others doing the course.
However, you are not able to upload photos from photoshop.
Does anyone know how i upload photos that i have edited in photoshop onto the course website?? Do i have to use another editing programme??

Everyone elses photos look really good :'( and seem to be able to get there edited photos on there fine. Mine are ones that i have edited using microsoft paint!!!:bonk:

I may just be being a bit thick, but can anyone help??!!:help:

I *think* that if you save your files with all the layers and everything, as a photoshop file, they won't upload... but if you save the edited file that way, and then go to "save as" and select "jpg" or "JPEG" at the bottom under "file type" (hope I'm making sense) and then call the picture something else - it should then let you upload the jpeg file.

However, doing this flattens your layers and means you can't go back and edit them again, so it's important to keep the original file and your edited photoshop file as well as the final jpg.

really hope that makes sense :) and good luck with the course, I was looking at that a while ago, would be interested to hear your thoughts on it as you go along, as it's one I'm hoping to do once I'm settled with a proper job as opposed to temping :D

Save the photos as a J-Peg and it should be fine.

What Wildlight said... That worksss Remeber to save an adobe type though...

IIRC Paint "save" default as a bmp file and the OU course will only accept Jpeg?
You can re-open in paint and "save as" click the Jpeg option.

Don't they ( the (OU) supply a copy of elements to "work with"?

Again just save and use the Jpeg option

I suspect you are going to need at least Photoshop elements.. You could get a student version if they do not supply.
You can do a "save for web" in that, and it will reduce the size of the jpeg for downloading for you, the same as most people do on this site.

Hi,

Firstly, you need a copy of either:-

Photoshop Student Edition or Photoshop Elements
You could use GIMP with the photoshop addon (discussed on this board, search for GIMP)
You could you Corel Paint Shop Pro or whatever it's called.

There are other packages but stick with the first if you can afford to do so.

Secondly, you need some sort of FTP program to send your files to the web site, you can/could/maybe use Internet Explorer. Other than that, consider looking on the web for a free ftp program.

My advise is go speak to your tutor, explain that you don't know how to do what you need to do, so would they explain the best way to complete your tasks.

Remember ..... "LACK OF KNOWLEDGE IS NOT STUPIDITY" .... Don't be scared of asking, if they belittle you, they are failing as a tutor!

Best of luck,
Carl.
