....straight to a laptop via a cable?

Hi the professionals, when they take a picture, they can see it straight away on their laptop.

How do they do this?

Thanks

Its called tethering........

The posh cameras can do it without a wire!

Bit of software, and a USB lead is all thats needed but not all camera's can do it. I suggest a google of "Tethering Sony Alpha A330" to see what happens......

I assume that's the camera you use!

I don't know any cameras that have wireless built in -yet - but you can get add-on units for Canon and Nikon SLRs that send pictures to a wireless network.

You are pretty much well informed from the people above.
I know that Canon comes with a free software for this and Nikon users are requried to purchase software. So i'm sure there is an option for the Sony cameras too.

But as an other note, what are you going to do when you buy a new camera :P Because you can't change your username :)

Thank you guys.

Andy cheers for that, I will look into an add on.

JP thank you very much for your comment, and I shall look into that too, regards to the username, well I don't think I will be getting rid of my Sony just yet.

Hi there,

Looked into this tethering and not having much joy.

I've downloaded the software that I got with the camera, and not hvaing any job there either. It's downloads: Image Data Converter SR Ver. 3 and PMB stuff.

Might have to pop into Jessops and see what they say.

Tha a700 allows tethered shooting, not sure the a3xx series do as I don't remember it being an option when I had an a300.

Just has a quick search and came up with this.

You take out that cable bundled with your Alpha, the one with the yellow digital plug and the USB-like end. You plug the ends in the proper places (USB-like to camera, yellow plug to yellow circular contact in the screen) and youre ready.

What will happen is that the information display you'd usually see in the LCD screen is now transferred to the screen, the LCD will go black (this is NOT a malfunction) as long as the cable is plugged to the camera, even if its not plugged to the screen.

You could use an Eye-Fi card. These are SD cards that have a built in wireless feature.
