Not talking energy suppliers but whats the best consumable
i have an 8-year-old plasma 55inch tv which i guess should be changed but is led the best bet, then light bulbs wich ones

I've replaced most of my single standard bulbs with smart ones(Tapo) they are dimmable through the app from 100% down to 1%

All our lamps and lights are LED now.

Remember you have the cost to change to factor in, even if you spent £500 on a new TV, how many years will it take to recoup in savings?

Think more about use - What time is heating and hot water set to come on, how long for, can you reduce the time? Do you change heating at this time of year when its not needed if at home some days when others it is. I have Hive which is so easy to switch on and off.

What about keeping doors closed when taking out rubbish, otherwise all the cold are disappears? Not sitting around in shorts and t shirt then putting on heating? Draught excluders if needed for doors?

Very broadly speaking an LED TV uses 50-75% of an equivalent sized Plasma one, but as Simon says it will take a long time to recover any savings unless you need to get a new one for another reason.

Another thing to remember is that unless your TV is on all the time, it's probably only costing you forty quid or so a year anyway.

High consumption items like washing machines and tumble driers, toasters, ironing. They’re the things to curb.

I invested in a quite a few pairs of undies and socks so that now I only have to do an underwear wash once every couple of weeks…..
It’s amazing how long you can go with 3 pairs of each :D

You can double the wear time by turning them inside out after a week too.

Not the rubber bands that the posties leave as "gifts"?

Don't forget "back to front" as well :D

That's just disgusting!

I tried that with socks once and had a heck of a job stopping myself from walking backwards into things…… :D

On average a Plasma will use around 400-500 watts when switched on, a modern 4k LED TV will use around 80 watts.

Yes you have the initial cost of the new TV to take into account, but you are getting a more modern slicker TV

I was always an advocate of plasma for the best picture quality, up until mine failed and you cannot get them any more. Move on to today and we have a nice 55" Sony FALD 4K TV and the picture quality is amazing, especially the Dolby Vision.

:asshat:

Just ban me from HT...

Getting a heat pump dryer has saved us the most in one item that I can think of, gone from using it only in winter to save money to just doing everything all the time in it because it doesn't use anything.

Just ban me from HT...
I thought I had TBH? seems not.
Well that is I thought you asked? ..
Easy done if you are serious ..

Not really necessary, I seem to be able to avoid the pit, even if some of the jokes I post get moved there!

It seems better to me to continue using that TV until it fails in some way, or at least sell it some someone else can use it for longer before it goes to waste.
