Hi folks,

Can anyone advise how to light a pregnant belly to get this effect?

Or, even better…

What light do I need? And position? Assume power needs to be right down?

I'm fairly new to lighting. Have a couple of speedlights and an Elinchron. No grid/snoot.

I don't have much space or time to experiment, so I need guidance BEFORE I try it. Any advice appreciated!

It can be done with a standard reflector fitted with a honeycomb, with a strip softbox fitted with a honeycomb or with a strip or rectangular softbox with no honeycomb - I'm pretty certain that your example was lit with a rectangular softbox with no honeycomb, but a honeycomb provides more options and reduces the risk of flare.

The amount of power is irrelevant. What matters is making sure that no stray light reaches the bits that it shouldn't reach, which means that you don't want light from the softbox reflecting off of white walls etc.

Position: At the side and behind. Simply experiment to get the effect you want.

Thanks Garry. Will give it a shot.
