Hi there,
I've taken some pictures for a competition but just read the size has to be a maximum of 800 pixels along its longest side and image overall will not exceed 150kb.
How do I do this/what's the best way to do this?

Thanks
Marco

Try pixresizer, it is a free program and very easy to use.

Once you have cropped to the ratio required, click Image/image size and and type the sizes into the box.

OK. Find `Image` in the top menu. Then Resize>Image Size. Make sure Constrain Image and Resample Image are ticked, then change Resolution to 72 and width to 800 pixels (assuming width is your longest dimension).

Click OK.

Now go: File> Save As. The jpeg options menu will show the file size on the right, under Preview. If it is too high, move the slider towards Small File until it indicates a suitable size.

Click OK.

Done.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you duplicate the image if you want to keep a big version. Either change the name when you do `save as`, or use File>Duplicate before you start. You can always make a file smaller, but you can't make it bigger without loosing a lot of quality.

No need to set the resolution to anything when resizing; 800 pixels is 800 pixels. You can set the resolution to 1 or 3001, it won't change the size of the image.

If you have trouble getting the file size down to the 150kb try the save for web option (file/save for web) unticking the save exif will also help reduce the file size slightly.

Thanks everyone for their help, I shall try this later on, hopefully I can manage it, if not I'll be back :P

Try it! If you alter the resolution with resample ticked, the number of pixels alters. To get the OP's image down to 150kb will need a lot of compression. Reducing the number of pixels makes this easier and will probably result in a better result.
