I'm with BT and a couple of times recently nothing in the house will connect wirelessly to the router, although allthe correct lights are on, so I have to reboot and
all goes well.
I get frequent letters from BT offering a free upgrade to infinity and recently without a new contract, so today decided to enquire.
Hmmm a bit bemused as my bill has reduced by £7 a month, free router and free activation, guess what, I've gone for it.
Oh and if I want to change things slightly and reduce the free calls I never make I can have unlimited broadband for 23p less

Does seem a bit odd. My wife has BT broadband and a slow, rural, connection of around 2 mbps. BT offered her a free upgrade to Infinity, but she would have to take a new 12 month contract at a higher monthly cost. She turned it down, and told them it was too expensive and she didn't want/need more speed anyway.

Maybe she should check again? :)

How long is it since you got infinity in your area?
They upgraded us about a year ago and I said the same at the time, still ok with it
but I keep getting letters offering me this deal so as the router might be playing up
decided to ting them and see ;)

You need to establish if it's a wireless problem or a connection problem - never been a fan of wireless and only use it for my phone (not pc) but it's worth plugging in a cable if you have one to check the speed with a cable. Most ADSL routers have a "stats" screen where you can check the connection speed to the exchange. If you are never get anything like that speed in speed tests (eg speedtest.net etc), especially during busy evening periods then there is a problem with the ISP rather than the connection, which only an isp switch can cure.

I've been chuffed to bits since getting BT infinity.
Both with the service, speed and cost.

Never have a problem when I am connected, which is wireless, but as the router is a few years old now, might as well pay less and get a new one with
a hopefully faster connection (y)

Nice to know that Ruth, I've been on with BT for a while now and not had any problems, love the BTfon part too, connect anywhere(y)

If you upgrade to Infinity, try to make sure they give you a Home Hub 5. It's (I think) the latest version and connects directly to the broadband line jack unit - previous versions needed a seperate modem - the HH5 has that built in.

Mine's been connected for around 9 months and (famous last words....... :$) has not failed......

Noted in diary...Viv is pleased about summat......:)

We've been with infinity for a while now I've just renewed the contract
we have got a home hub 3 I asked them to send a home hub 5 which they are doing
all the wireless stuff does work ok:)

I was on the phone to VIrgin and they offered to knock £5 of my monthly bill without signing up to a new contract. I was so suspicious of this offer! Surely it cant be possible that they would effectively give me £60.....

If it's a BT router then there's your problem. Ours will be fine for months then suddenly will flake out every half hour and need rebooting. Apparently it's something to do with an unstable power supply. All I know is it's crap!

I thought the only time Viv would be chuffed to bits was if she fell off the platform into the path of an oncoming steam train... ;) :p

Lemme guess, you're here all week..........

I think it was last year, but I don't spend a lot of time at my wife's address. I'll tell her about this, and she can follow up with BT if they offer it again. Thanks.

Who knows, the very nice Guy I spoke to at BT looked at my usage and offered me the best deal for ME, which just
happened to be £7 a month less then I am now paying, not being tied to a contract means that I can change it at anytime or
go elsewhere if I'm not happy:D

My router is a few years old now and has moved house with me, yes it a BT homehub and has never given me any trouble until
now, but as they are giving me a new Homehub5 free then I'm happy :D

Gotta be worth asking (y)

Glad you are sorted Ingrid, sounds like a good deal
They have been promising fibre here for years, and its always "just around the corner" that previous up date, the back end of 2014, was Jan 5th 2015,
the latest one is now April 1st, the irony was not lost on me either

PMSL, so you gonna prepay and book it ;)

I still cannot believe that you in the Grand Metropolis of the Concrete Cow still don't have fibre optics
whilst us mere yokels out in the back of beyond now have upgraded infinity and even the little
village I used to live in is having it installed at the moment it seems, loads of activity in the area.

Don't really need it for what I use the web for but it's the cheapest wat to get new router :D

They've been trying to get me me to do that for (over) two years under the pretext that its "imminent" yeah right!

Virtually all of MK has had it for years, its just my little corner out on the western edge, that seems to have been "forgotten"

Awww how could they possibly forget you :p

Woo Hoo, my new BTHomehub5 has arrived, all plugged in and working, even without the upgrade on Monday I'm already flying faster
Think I might need a seat belt when it's all sorted :ROFLMAO:

When I switched to BT I went from 4 to 40mb.....enjoy!

I'm on 20mb, have been since they upgraded the exchange last year, when it was 8mb,
hence not rushing to upgrade at the time, it's still fast enough for what I do, but hey
brilliant to get more for less (y)

I'm getting more impressed by the minute.
Bought a smart TV to watch Iplayer etc on, never worked, took ages to load
so I got Sky for various reasons and solved that problem, except I don't like
they way you have to download programmes to the hard drive.
Had a look at the smarthub on the TV earlier and after it spent a few seconds updating
It now works perfectly, woo hoo, can't wait to see what happens when infinity kicks in
on Monday :)

I don't like they way you have to download programmes to the hard drive.
Hmmm, I would prefer that. Once youve downloaded the programme you know its not going to drop out once you start watching if the connection starts playing up. Much preferable to streaming I think.

I could rarely get it to start playing anyway, now it works fine, it used to tell me the apps needed updating then take forever to do it, just updated the
first 2 in a matter of seconds :D

Well as said before I was impressed once I put the new router in, and on time I came back from a day out and I've been upgraded(y)
Never really gave a thought to the upload speed but that is now nearly as quick as my old download one was............................Happy Days
no more struggling to upload pictures :D:banana:
