I want to email two photographs to a magazine, they are both 15MB.

My email account with outlook.com only allows you to send photographs up to 25MB. What is the best way to reduce the size but keep the quality of the photographs?

I use Lightroom and Elements.

Thank you.

Why not try sending them 'as is' by using wetransfer.com ... I use this for sending large files to publishers.

If you need to reduce the filesize but not the image size you can just save them with more compression in the JPEG settings, of course you can resize the images to a smaller pixel size too. For general sharing on the web I usually resize images to 1000 pixels in the largest dimension & save at about 95% quality - I suspect you'd want to keep the files much bigger for this!

I generally use FastStone rather than Lightroom or Elements so can't give precise details but the same principles would apply - FastStone is after all a more basic package :)

You can only reduce the file size in one of two ways. You alter the size in pixel dimension or you compress the file more by reducing quality.

You can use FastStone which is free and very good, to resize the file to say 1600 x1200 pixles or what ever. Or use something like Photoshop and use the 'save as' and then reduce the quality when it asks before saving.

Wot gramps says!

I couldn’t get FastStone to load on my IMac :(

That would explain why....

imgur.com has resize etc which is what I use

For resizing multiple images I'd recommend BatchPhoto. It works on both Mac and Windows and it's got a free trial version.

I've just had a couple of articles published where they needed one image at double-page spread size, which is 42cm wide in a normal magazine or about 5000px wide

I'd just export from LR at 5000px and quality 90% as this is more than enough quality and yet can be half the file size, mine are about 5-7mb at this

Simples

Llightroom is what I use.

File / Export. Scroll down in the resultant box until you get to File Size.
Set quality to 100. Tick box "limit file size to" / enter file size and export it.
