How to put a perch in for shorties....!!

My first thought is, get out of the flaming field. These idiots spoil it for everyone else, walking into the middle of it to get a shot, scaring the birds of and generally making a nuisance of themselves.

My second thought is that's hilarious.

Very funny, your mate also has some great Kestrel footage on there.

I totally agree, it does make you laugh though. By all accounts the hunt went through the fields the other day scared all the birds i don't know how it is now.

Richard,
On monday there was 4 toggers and 8 owls up, and close by all accounts, it just goes show what a difference it makes NOT having idiots running up and down the edge of the field or actually IN IT.....!!!

I can't see the owls being there for much longer, all this disturbance certainly isn't doing them any good what so ever.... Surely the welfare of these amber status birds must be a priority....????

Im afraid to say there are more than a few idiots running round it isn't just confined to here, it's happening to the dippers in the Peak District i have witnessed people within 10 feet of the nest before now it's the same at Donna Nook with the Grey Seals . The trouble is some people do not research there subject and haven't a clue about field craft. I dread to think what the next 10 years will bring for certain species.

 I may just make another visit though but it will be in the week and i will stick to the paths,:D they will soon be thinking of moving though

I'm not sure research is required on any species. Surely it's common sense in that you leave any animal or bird to get on with it's natural life and you keep your distance.

People are so stupid and selfish.

It is common sense, but the biggest problem is when someone else sees someone doing something they do the same without thinking in photography people become blinkered it's the shot that matters. A prime example someone is sat in a static hide and there are thistles in the way i will trample those down so they are out of my way so i have a better view is what goes through the mind, no thought is given to what uses them for food ?

If you have time just read through this thread i got involved on page 4 i had taken a photo of the guy just to show what not to do. Read what he studied then you will see the problem i can send you the missing photo if you like

Ah yes a valid point but it seems this is a policy used by the people who administer some certain reserves.
At one popular hide that had kingies in 2010 there was a lot of interesting things (dragons, butterflies etc) using the undergrowth in front of the hide.
This was until one day I arrived to be greeted by the site of those small black cattle which were bought in to do natural clearance and the whole place was a hell of a mess.No places at all for the small wildlife.
All this after signs being put up warning people to not go in front of the hide to place better perches for the kingies. The people who did this did not do any serious damage and it was at a time when there was no disturbance to any wildlife...dusk.
Another funny thing is that they then ask if anyone has any pics of the Kingies etc for the trust to use in calendars or the newsletters etc.

Funny old world....
Keith

p.s. ....forgot to say about the subject of the thread......very funny footage and also brill ones of the shorties. No need to go now !!!
Also I hope I remember this thread (especially the poor seals) when out and about and what knock on any of my action may have.

It just saddens me sometimes that people just don't think, Im no Angel by any means. But if we keep along the path we are going eventually certain areas will be closed to us because of our actions. I get no Joy in flagging up things like this every so often. But hopefully a few people take it on board and they pass it on to others.
I just want to enjoy my photography without having so called environmentalist breathing down my kneck i know that day is coming

P.s Don't get me started on some people who run reserves in some cases pounds shillings and pence spring to mind. There are some fantastic people who are Wardens and i respect highly but there are also some complete and utter Dipsticks.:D please note i kept it clean ;)

 I feel so much better for that :D

Just keep enjoying your photography Keith i look forward to seeing a few more of your images.

Yes please Richard,
I've had a quick read and I'm totally shocked.....

IDIOTS.....!!!!

Anyway I think your absolutely right, let us enjoy our hobby, and a little bit of common sense goes a long way.....

I will be going over next week too Richard if you fancy hooking up...?

A buzzard can be disturbed from a mile away. A short eared owl will fly a foot above your head with basic concealment.

Of course, anyone who researched their subject would know why...

I'm lucky enough to have Short-Eared Owls flying over my garden. I've seen four at once, but there have been reports of six. The fields they use for hunting are used by dozens of dog-walkers - which the owls totally ignore until they come too close. But people just standing still and letting the owls approach can have them fly within a few meters (at which point I give up shooting - because they overflow the frame -and just stand there with a stupid grin on my face).
