Hello guys and gals,

I am very interested in photographing sports, what is the best way of starting off.

I understand its not easy as I have been emailing all my local sporting clubs and not had any form of contact back.

I have been photographing portraits recently and although i enjoy this I really would like to start some form of sports photography.

I would like to be involved in extreme sports but there are not many local that i can find.

Thanks guys and gals.....

Find sports to photograph. Photograph them.

Tobers hit it on the head, you start out small and build up what you shoot.

I have found emailing and other messages get very little response if any from smaller clubs in most sports, I usually find out where they play or train and pop down and introduce myself to the coaches and see where it goes from there, never just turn up and sit at the side of the pitch with all the fears parents have your likely to get lynched.

If its extreme sports then make a list and search the web for them stick your town or city if the town results come back with nothing in google and see what comes up it is quite surprising the sports that take place is some unusual locations you wouldn't thing about.

It depends what you want to photograph.

"Sports" covers a very wide base

Extreme sports such as?

Where are you based?

But yes, as Tobers put it, find a sport and photograph it. You must have at least one friend or a friend of a friend who plays a sport, this could be your "in" with that team.

Tiddly winks is quite extreem, I think someone has actually shot it as well I remember someone posting.

As Kelly says make use of the people you know.

Hi John,
I think it was our very own top sports shooter Tobers:),
laughing in the face of danger, as the discs reached incredable speeds around him:lol
