How to connect a flash umbrella to tripod

I am not a professional and just want to extend the use of my Nikon D90 and Nikon Speedlight SB-600. I have a 'normal' tripod and one of these devices.View attachment 41029

I want to buy a cheap umbrella but do not want to buy a dedicated umbrella stand (not yet anyway). I would like to see the results before indulging myself in better equipment. Anyway, after all of that rambling, how can I connect the device shown above to a camera tripod? There must be a way surely but I cannot think of one (old age.

quite honestly I'd just buy a cheap konig stand to start off for a speedlight, it's not much more money is much taller and will e much quicker and easier to setup. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Photography...758&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=konig+light+stand

Yes, exactly as Craig says. Those Konig stands are perfectly adequate and great value. You don't need the female spigot either - umbrella adapter slots straight on top
