No
had a play with it this weekend, and fired a few shots quickly one after the other, but i guess the flash doesn't recharge as quick?

What flash are you comparing it to?

I have both the SB600 and the SB800 and I don't notice any real difference in the recycle times between the 2. I'm sure there is some difference but you'd probably have to measure it in fractions of a second. Having said that, I very rarely use a flash on full power which would increase the recycle time.

Nikon quote the recharge time as 3.5 seconds with a fully charged set of batteries, so its quite slow to start with!

Only for a full power discharge/recharge.

The sb600 is actually the quickest at recycling of the range. Not a huge amount in it though. I think it's because it has a lower power output than the 800 and 900, so naturally gets back to full juice quicker.

good thinking, i've not recharged these batteries i was using in it since hmmm.... well ages ago LOL

now where is the charger ;-)

Use rechargeable batteries with as high an mAh rating as you can find. Makes a massive difference - way way faster recycle times.

My fiancée bought me a SB600 for my birthday yesterday to go with my D300 mainly used in dark urban exploration.

I was testing yesterday with a charged set of 2800mah rechargeables shooting in Ch mode at 8fps (have the MB-D10), holding my finger down, the Sb600 was set on iTTL and kept up no problem.

Well impressed! I used some older batteries in there and got the same effect as you ;)

will check what rechargeable batteries i'm using and give it a full charge

So you managed to get your SB600 to fire 8 times per second?

I wouldn't have thought that was possible even with fully charged batteries and the flash set at 1/64th power which is its minimum.

do you have the 5th battery option that is available on the 800? that improves things loads

no sb600 only takes 4 AAs

good reminder going to find charger now LOL

im sure you can get a quantum thingy that helps

charging 2000mah rechargeables so see how it goes

but if "Nikon quote the recharge time as 3.5 seconds with a fully charged set of batteries"

2000 is pretty low, we use 2500's and 2700's
