Hello all,

Just curious really to hear from different levels of photographer...

How often do you go out and shoot?
Do you set yourselves challenges or aim to get out x times a week/month etc

Personally, having just started to use the camera again will aim to use it once every set of rest days, so every 8 days really. That could be from going out to do something or stay indoors and try something.

For me it depends on what I see, camera is always with me and with traveling all around the east with work if I see something that catches my eye I'll stop and shoot so I guess I'm lucky in that way.
I'm not into portraits or indoor things so if it's raining I'm not happy!

That would be awesome if I could just stop to take some pictures, hardly get time to eat!

either one or both of my bodies go everywhere with me just incase I see something that catches my eye.. nearly been late to a job before from doing that. haha

Unfortunately the only time I didnt take the big 500mm was the time I could of got the best shot I have ever had of a buzzard flying... less than 20m away and was gutted.

Cameras get used on a daily basis either for work or my own pleasure really which is both good and bad, one of the 60D's has taken over 40,000 shots in less than 5 months.

Go out specifically to shoot? Very rarely but if I go for a walk or drive, I'll generally take a camera on the off chance there'll be something worth shooting.

I took up photography (again, after a gap of many years) to fill my empty days during a recent bought of illness, now I'm back to my usual routine I didn't want to let my new equipment get stuffed under the stairs and forgotten so I joined the 52 in 52 week challenge to give me a good reason (and an inspiring theme) to get my cameras out at least once every week.

This. But in about a week it'll be just me and the gear out and away for a couple of days. Be interesting to see what I get done.

Plenty of cold outdoor showers...

11 days until we're back in Crete. MIGHT go out a few times purely for photographic purposes, depending on my waking/hangover status! I daresay there will be a few deliberately photographic wanderings while Mrs Nod soaks up some rays and some of them might involve the snorkelling kit as well (I'm not a sun-worshipper).

I try and shoot every couple of days but depends on if I get the chance and the weather is ok. I just go for a walk across the fields or do some street stuff mainly. Im starting to get into macro as well though now so if the weather is bad I can just shoot indoors :)

Far less often than I'd like to.

Damn you real world for getting in the way of me having fun :)

A camera travels nearly everywhere I do...up until a few weeks ago I shot every single day...a recent bit of fun and games has caused me to stop shooting for a little bit of time but that will soon change again. I'm actually shooting right now :D but on actual planned shoots I'd say I average once a week...I kind of have to keep up with and perfect my art

I always have at least my point and shoot camera with me although I've been crazy busy in the last few weeks so I haven't been out for a serious day's shooting in around 3 weeks. I'm usually out properly at least once a week, if not more.

I'm seriously itching for a proper day's shooting though, my poor cameras aren't liking this inactivity!

I like the fact i always have my phone with me for the camera but its never the same is it.
Would be quality if I could even take the camera to work

I almost always have a camera with me on walks etc (I am retired)
As far as specific shoots (motor sport and classical music concerts) goes it can get intense at times with multiple shoots on a weekend, let alone any dawn shoots with Flickr groups, and family stuff.
(I am a hobbyst)

I used to try to go out and and shoot every weekend, but since becoming a dad three years ago, the frequency is now maybe 4 or 5 of times a year!

Having said that, having a kiddie around gives more opportunities to shoot casual snaps, and I always have a camera of some sort on me. I rarely use it day to day (photography is forbidden where I work, motorway journey to and from work) but it's there if ever I need it.

on average i would say i take between 2000 to 3000 photos every weekend the joys of motorsport :bonk:

Not enough really. Try to use it on the weekends and once or twice during the week. Going to try to start a 52 project next year, so I will have to take it out more often.

For work I'm shooting every day. This past 6 weeks has been producing catalogues for trade shows so the majority of my photography has been studio work, shooting products on white for clipping out. There have been some outdoor shoots (not as many as I'd like) but much of my outdoor work has revolved around producing videos for the brand websites.

As for personal stuff, I shoot family stuff so it's as-and-when we do something.

Not as much as i used too, if the lights not right i don't bother these days.

When I can. Working 9-5 and having a family means this isn't as often as I'd like but I do my best.

Being a wildlife person means I need to find at least 2-3 hours plus getting there to be worth getting the bag out but I usually manage at least once a week, which means I get a nice image once a quarter!

That said at the moment I've been trying to get a decent shot of the ISS and the perseids. Wife's at work tonight so I can really have a proper crack once the kids are in bed.

If I'm not shooting I'm editing.

I'm trying to make time to shoot my own personal stuff too now though. :)

I suppose the other question would be...

Why do you shoot and what do you do with the images?

I'm currently in the throws of going through some stuff from the last couple of years and want to select some to be printed to have in a book... more for my own viewing and a reminder that I can improve and am.

Also want to take something good enough to put on the living room wall

Why do I shoot - I get paid to :)

What do i do with the images - they get used in marketing and promotional material, plus in magazines.

Why: Helped give me motivation to spend more time outdoors, and rekindled my interest in wildlife. Even if I don't get an image having a fox come out 8m from you and only realise you're there when the focus starts up is special.

What do I do: hide them on a hard drive, post the odd one to twitter/flickr/facebook, print even less (need to fix that). I would suggest everyone print at least 1 image big, it needn't cost the world but it really changes things.

No Often enough .... not as often as i would like... have to balance work and life with shooting. and shooting always ends up coming in last :(

I dont.
I go out, to do 'stuff'.. and if its photogenic... I photograph it.
I have hundreds upon hundreds of photo's that are of no interest to any-one, even me, I took, when I felt I had to go 'find' stuff to photograph.
Like Edison's light-bulb experiments they serve little but a record of the 100's of ways to shoot uninteresting photo's.
So, I don't bother going out to shoot...
I don't try and force photographs to happen, I just make sure I have a camera handy when there is something worth shooting.

I shoot because;
#1 It gets me out of the house
#2 It can be a technical and artistic challenge.
#3 It can expose me to new experiences.
#4 I am a lot more alert when I have a camera in my hand.
#5 The photographs can help with memories (mine, subjects and family)
#6 Sometimes the subjects like a record of their activities. (mostly sport and classical music) and makes them feel good.

What do I do with the photographs?
#7 For my better vacation pics I hang them on my wall.
#8 I share them on line.
#9 I ocassionally sell one.
#10 Once a year I make a calendar (motor sport) for gifts and publish it on line.

Not as oftern as I'd like due to working long hours and trying to balance that with spending time with my kids, who are only young.
As a result most of my shots are of the kids, not a bad thing, but I'd love the chance to get out more to take specific shots or challenges I plan. In reality that only happens every couple of months at best.

Most days- dependant on the weather :D

Im a Game Keeper so have a one of my camera's with a long lens fitted, in the Landrover at all times, you never know when a once in a life time photograph presents itself ;)

Les

Not shot in months, if it weren't so much of a hassle advertising and listing my gear I'd sell the lot.
