Cruising the Bay. as you do, and came across this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/canon-f1-plus...14&_trkparms=72:1690|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318

And it got me thinking.

Firstly, for £250, is it a good deal, but then also, how much would the modern equivalent of all this be?

I am no expert on anything, especially film cameras, so be interested to see.

Copied the text so when the link goes, we know what it was. Sad story also.

Canon Lens FD 135mm 1:3.5 SC

Canon Lens FD 100mm 1:2.8 SSC

call me an old cynic but this is the second or third

"I'm selling <<insert almost anything>> for my <<insert random relative>> as her/my <<another random relative>> has passed away and he/she won't be using the kit. I don't know how much it's all worth. I'll be posting some more soon"

that I've seen in the last few days

caveat emptor :rules:

Sorry Mike if i have the wrong end of the stick, but I have nothing to sell, I'm just curious as to how much you would have to spend to get a similar level of kit in todays modern equivalent. Was an F1 a pro body?

But, if you have seen many of these on Ebay etc, that wouldn't shock me.

no worries
I wasn't suggesting you were selling
just hoping you weren't tempted!

No don't have that kind of cash, and if I did, would be digital for me.

Although am considering finding a film slr with a good 50mm lens just to play with...

Was an F1 a pro body?

The last time I worked in a camera shop in the late 90's there was one in our shop that we sold for £495 - it was Mint and it was indeed a camera intended for the pro market.

Sold for £578.

HMM!

£578 is a good price for that kit if, as already pointed out, it is genuine.

However in your first post you ask "....how much would the modern equivalent of all this be?"
The problem is there really is no equivlent modern day camer to the Canon F1 as it was a full mechanical camera, so needed no batteries to work it.

But it was the "profesional camera of choice" in its day so the nearest moden day camera would have to be EOS 5D or the EOS 1Ds machines.

Not sure about the lens as I would think most of them would be covered by zooms ie 17-40L, 200mm f2.8L not sure if Canon still do a 300mm f4 would have to check.
