How much do Ebay charge

Can anyone tell me how much I could expect to pay in charges on ebay for an item around the £400 mark. As I have never sold anything on ebay and only bought I dont really know what to expect any advice would be helpful

Have you tried the TP classified it is cheaper?.:)
 
I usually say -15% to cover it safely.

Most local auction houses around here take at least 20% though, so as auctions go it's not bad considering coverage!
 
I have only ever sold a couple of things an I believe 15% would be a good guess. That's ok when your selling something cheap but soon mounts up on expensive items.

Ebay charge you for the add and a selling fee then paypal charges you again when you want to move the money.

I recently sold a 70-300mm lens on a 10 day, 99p starting auction and within minutes someone emailed me offering the same sort of figure I was wanting. So I ended the auction and did a private deal avoiding the charges...:)

That looks like it may be worth a go at, as @£400 ish the charges would kill it

Just remember to put on you auction "advertised elsewhere" then no one can complain if you canel the auction.
 
An auction item starting at 99p and no reserve which sells for £400 with no shipping fees will cost you a grand total of £53.80 in eBay/PayPal fees for a private seller....

With a reserve of £350 it'll total £62.10 in fees...

I think I'm in the wrong business somehow.... :shrug:
 
The other thing to consider, is if the lens is worth say £400, and you're only happy with at least £350.. what will you do if for some reason it sells for £50? And yes, it does happen at times! By all Ebay's things you should honour the sale, as else you should've started it higher or set a reserve.

That's the danger of no reserve, we've suffered in the past with starting an item at 99p having seen the same items selling consistently well for ours to flop:bang:
