Can anyone tell me how much I could expect to pay in charges on ebay for an item around the £400 mark. As I have never sold anything on ebay and only bought I dont really know what to expect any advice would be helpful
Bob
I have only ever sold a couple of things an I believe 15% would be a good guess. That's ok when your selling something cheap but soon mounts up on expensive items.
Ebay charge you for the add and a selling fee then paypal charges you again when you want to move the money.
I recently sold a 70-300mm lens on a 10 day, 99p starting auction and within minutes someone emailed me offering the same sort of figure I was wanting. So I ended the auction and did a private deal avoiding the charges...![]()
The other thing to consider, is if the lens is worth say £400, and you're only happy with at least £350.. what will you do if for some reason it sells for £50? And yes, it does happen at times! By all Ebay's things you should honour the sale, as else you should've started it higher or set a reserve.
I think I'm in the wrong business somehow....
