Number of visits 49,326,

That is crazy... there is NO WAY I am getting traffic like that, someone is messing with my website but they (web host) reckon not. I said google analytics says around 300 unique visitors but he said that is not always accurate

Anyone else heard/experienced this its crazy.... I would be very happy if it was true but I don't believe it for one minute

Hmm. I was wondering if someone had linked to an image from your site that was getting all the views.

That's me out of ideas I'm afraid, I've never had anyhting like that myself. 6 hits a day for me, 7 with a strong wind behind me. lol

Well according to my hosting company I am getting massive amounts of traffic from Canada, USA, Finland and China... something very dodgy but they reckon there has been no hacking

it is litterally called hotlink protection in mine. it lets you specific what domains can link to your graphics.

that would be a good starter for 10. otherwise it could be a DoS on your site/provider (your provider should be well aware of this if the case however).

I will have a hunt around.......

They said there was no evidence of a DOS attack.... I have had LOADS of traffic from US, Canada, China etc. I could advertise and retire the amount of traffic I am getting.

I hope Google take note and push my ranking up that would be one good outcome

does the bandwidth you've used this month reflect those figures? My cpanel stats are normally higher, but I think because they include spiders etc which GA doesn't. But they're about 25% higher, not multiple times higher

I have not used anywhere near that bandwidth....... my hosting company has banned certain IP addresses from China etc as they were using loads of bandwidth

I guess ratio between visitos & visits seems about right - I get about 4 visits per visitor, but the ratio of hits to visits seems quite high at almost 10 hits per visit - I normally only get about 5 - some packages have quite low bandwidth limits so it might not cost too much to upgrade this. The general stats don't seem particularly OTT in terms of actual numbers.

I think they are over the top, I don't get 11,000 unique visitors or 400,000 page hits in one month.... I'm not ebay or something

Can you download/check your logs?
Should be possible to do a bit of analysis on them and work out what's going on.

A lot of those visits will be automated (bots, spiders etc) rather than real people - i have a fairly basic blog that gets updated only a couple of times a month and normally get about 5000 unique visits/month but I'd be surprised if more that 10% of these are real people, so really just a handfull per day if that. I'd imagine that a professional photography site will on average tend get a lot more visitors that a personal blog page.

Yeah I have been having a look at those and will check them out more

5000 visits a month for your blog is excellent, I know you get spiders etc but that would not account for my numbers and spiders/bots don't show up in Google Analytics

I think some popular blogs (like yours obviously) can get thousands of hits especially if the subject matter is interesting

Once someone used my pic as an avatar on a forum, and as a signature, so the image was being called lots of times.

I changed the picture to a cream cake and the culprit soon got the hint.

Ha..ha.... Brilliant.... Most of the traffic seems to be going to my blog which is weird as there are only a few old posts as it needs updating

That is very strange indeed. Surely the only thing could be someone hot linking to your pictures.

Got it sorted (for now) my hosting company kept a close eye on it and found a LOT of people (thousands) were going to my blog from China and America ....they blocked the ISP and it seems to have stopped for now

Well I said I didn't know much about this kind of thing, looks like I need to start learning. I just heard from my host today that my wordpress admin page has had just shy of 5000 attempts to access it this month so far.

It's normal to have thousands of break-in attempts on the server logs - it's quite entertaining seeing all the different usernames they try!

Mass flooding of bot visits from China is very common and very normal. I get 100s of them each day - I blocked them with htaccess.
