How many photos on an iPad

I'm looking to maybe get an iPad, but mainly for my photos.

Is there any guide to show how many photos I'm likely to get on an iPad?

I know all my photos are 8Gb on an iPhone, but it's going to be more on an iPad due to the size of the photos.
 
Can I ask how you intend to get the photos onto your iPad? And what size each file will be an what iPad 16/32 etc you will have.

Depends on..
A) size of the ipad
B) Resolution of the photos
C) What other apps you have on the ipad

On a 32Gb Ipad, youll get about 28Gb worth of photos, with a little left over for apps and the IOS. Presuming JPG large images, that will be several hundred, if not thousands.
 
I will probably go for the 32Gb one, something middle of the range.

Photos will go on it via iPhoto on my Mac.

And they will be good quality JPEGs.

I think I have 5000 photos, but not all of those I'm interested in putting onto the iPad.

Unless I'm picking up up wrong surely a 5mb photo is 5mb weather it's on a phone, pad or pc?

It won't make any difference, it'll be whatever the source image is?

Well you learn something knew every day.

I would have thought they would have been compressed when they went onto the iPhone.

Seriously??? Lol!

A file size is a file size, it doesn't matter how big the screen you look at it on is! Unless you tell it to resize or put it through a poor quality editor, the file size will remain the same.

32gb is probably a sensible minimum to go for in any device these days if memory isn't expandable. I don't think many wish they had less space :)

I wouldn't bother with anything over the 16gb model, everything purchased via iTunes is stored and backed up via iCloud and you can store all pics etc offline with other services anyway. Internal memory isn't so crucial now. It's really limitless.

I got 1tb of on line storage free when I bought mine, it's very simple and easy to use.

Great if you've always got fast Internet. Not so great if you don't.

It's fine just with 3G! Admittedly, when 3G drops out its a pain but it shouldn't be an issue, even if you just use the wi if at home and don't have a 3G enabled version.
 
This is my other dilemma.....

3G or not 3G, that is my question?

If I don't go 3G, then I can just use my iPhone as a hotspot, but that's a pain.
Is it really worth the £100 extra for 3G?

See my last. For example 3G doesn't exist for 70% of my train journey.. My current usage on my 32gb wouldn't be possible on a 16 ;)

Not really, once you've connected it once (even then Its just joining a wifi network) you only have about 2 taps on the phone to get it back up.

Hi Jim how does the 1tb of storage work?
Is it the i cloud thing have had a look at that it looks like it works though itunes and more geared for sharing

Have just bought the retina screen wfi 32gb iPad having that much storage would be brilliant

It used to be done via Knowhow in PC World (think kit still is). It's 1TB normally £40 but it was chucked in for free when I bought the iPad (otherwise I wouldn't have given it another look!). There is an iPad app and you can also access it via your desk top or laptop. Upload and download anything you want to or from it.

thanks will have a look at that assume its an Apple service?
Would be handy to be able to view all my photos when I'm away from home
I have got a free dropbox account but its only 5gb the paid service is 100quid and limited to 100gb so not really an option
 
A typical 3G contract only gives you 1Gb data a month, you'll soon chew that up with photos.....

But you'd mainly use Wi Fi at home, which is what I do. We are only talking ***storage***.
 
Back to the original point, I'm pretty sure that iTunes compresses the files before putting them on the iPad, you can therefore get more on than you think.

I was thinking this last night.
In iPhoto, I have 102Gb of photos, and although I don't have all my photos on my iPhone, I have the vast majority. And that only takes up 5Gb on the iPhone.

So there must be some kind of compression.....

I wouldn't put them through iTunes, I simply put them directly on, then upload directly to my storage cloud.

iPhoto doesn't compress them though, unless you've told it to?
