Yes
We seem to have an issue at the moment at home with low flying Hercules (I think that's what they are called) flying over our house at night at ridiculously low levels.

They are really doing nothing for my nerves and wondered if there was somewhere I could put in a complaint. I have visions of one of them removing our chimney or worse.

Don't ask for a photo.................... its always dark!!

I am really concerned about it. Particularly as we live surrounded by hills.

Write to the public relations officer at RAF Lyneham.

Switch your landing light off! ;)

It's that time of year but if you call the RAF they will take notice of your concerns.

Thanks for the replies.

Badgerbaiter - The crazy thing is I love watching planes take off and land at the airport and I love flying.

Ian - Thanks for that some of it made sense and I know we are in a high risk area for the little jets, just not normally the big stuff.

Himupnorth / Kev - I'll maybe give them another week and then call. I guess they could just be doing specific exercises at the moment.

Hopefully they'll give over soon.

It all depends on what course of action you wish to take.

The Public Relations Officer from Lyneham will write you a letter or maybe even call to ease your fears.

However if you wish to make an actual complaint, then I believe the RAF has a "Flying Complaints" section. You should be able to get a contact number or address for this by calling the Main Guardroom of any RAF Station.

Though i admit its been a fair few years since i've had any experiance of this.

You should write to them, then you're letter can appear on the station intranet for all the lineys to laugh at the looney who thinks the aircraft is "coming to get her and her daughter every time they step out of the house." Not you but a flying complaint or 10 I've read from someone who lives near a helicopter base in a well to do area.

Night flying season will be over soon. then it'll just be the low level during the day to worry about. Less chance of them hitting your roof in the day though;)

Hmm, could of been me but I don't have a daughter and I don't live anywhere near a base.:p

unfortunately for you, night flying is essential training as the pilots need time on night vision goggles. when they get out to the middle east they'll be doing most of their flying at night ferrying troops and stores in/out of iraq for example.

I would suspect you could complain all you like but at the end of the day it's essential training and they'll continue untill they've finished.

do a little dance for fog, that'll stop them :runaway:

It's called 'The Sound of Freedom'. I lived in Germany during the last war (no, not that one, The Cold War) and would love to hear fast and noisy jets go overhead. Once you start thinking of it as 'The Sound of Freedom', you have a totally different viewpoint.

Anyhow - if you think it's bad - just imagine this - http://www.komar.org/sound-of-freedom/

Nice story!! Had a B1 touching supersonic at Mildenhall (or was it Fairford...??) airshow a number of years ago!! Overheard him on the radio getting a telling off from the controller!!

Can i come and live with you??? even just sit on your roof, i wouldnt be a nuisance, in fact you wouldnt even know i was there.
I love planes, me:love:

Dean:)

staffitaxi, you might live somewhere near me - i get it a lot where i live up wharfedale, been here almost 5 years now and hardly even hear it when one goes over now lol.

It did used to wake me up but now im so used to it, that it never bothers me. Maybe im just so mad that i dont notice :cuckoo: lol

2blue4u - I did smile when I read that.

Dino - I love planes too but not travelling really slowly at low altitude over my house, it makes me nervous. They've given us a break tonight.... well so far anyway, they've usually gone over by now. I've heard a rumour they drop their cargo of men out just over the valley for parachute practice. But don't know if its true or not. Its too dark to see. If you sit on the roof there is a good chance they'll pick you up and give you a lift!!

Jimmys friend Reg - Yep, not far at all, I live in Ingleton.

We also get the little fast jets over regularly which usually make me jump but don't worry me the same as the slow moving big ones as they are gone in seconds.

There was once a story of somebody complaining to RAF Wittering about Harriers hovering at night..... this went on for a while (weeks) until it got a bit "silly". Then pilots took action, found out who was creating trouble (it became a bit more than a series of complaints) and hovered over his house! Apparently, the complaint became a serious grievance as some roof tiles had rattled loose!

I got the story 2nd hand from some guys I worked with who all used to be in the RAF.... guess it's true .... it ought to be!
