Yes
I had a new canon camera my mum got me for xmas but i got very angry and put in in tea. It isn't working now and says lens error restart camera.

How long do I wait until i get a new one, I have a old camera but that is rubbish because it has a black mark on it. I feel very stupid that i did this

Hi and welcome to TP

Ok, you dunked your new camera into liquid......now trashed. You have an old camera which has a black mark on it that for some reason also makes it 'damaged'.

Sorry to hear of your angst about the situation but just what do you need help with, as it is up to you to know when you should spend money on anything let alone a new camera???

it has a black mark on the screen that i can't get rid of. I have cleaned the lens, tried everything with it but it won't go away. It gets bigger when I zoom in.

How long do i wait before getting a new camera, It was a xmas present

When you say a black mark on it, do you mean a black mark on the resulting images you take with it? If it's a digital camera perhaps something has got onto the sensor...

Yes it does that. But my old camera isn't that good. My new camera took sharper images and was so nice

When you ask how long you have to wait, do you mean you've sent your new camera to be repaired and you're wondering how long it will take?

Perhaps if you told us exactly the make and model of the camera with the black mark it might aid any advice?

If you transfer a picture from the camera with the black mark to your PC does the black mark still show in the picture when viewed on the PC??? Knowing that answer will at least suggest that it is taking a good image but it is the camera screen that is a problem......or not???

Seeing as it gets bigger when the OP zooms in suggests there's something on the sensor, or some weird lens aberration.

Well how long do a wait until i should get a new one. It was a xmas present. I don't have much money to buy a new one as it was over £80

It is is not yet clear if he is referring to zooming in and taking a picture or reviewing post shot. At this stage I surmise he is referring to a compact camera and dirt on those sensors is IMO very rare. Also where in the frame and how large a black mark......is it a solid mark or just obscuring the image.

For all we know he could have used it to get a sunshot and burned the sensor????

Well perhaps you should look into getting your Xmas present repaired? Just because it took a swim in a cup of tea doesn't mean it's beyond hope. It's likely to be a lot less expensive than shelling out for a new one.

The black mark is there when i zoom in, don't zoom in, when its on the computer and yes it obscures the image

Yep, that's why I suggested either something on or up with the sensor, or the lens. The OP can replicate the problem when the image is transferred to their PC too.

I doubt the cost of repairs, even if possible, would be economic?

I asked the OP to transfer to PC to confirm image has the problem.

Why? We don't even know what camera the OP has beyond it being a Canon and being digital.

I told you i have and it still shows the black mark
Sorry I missed that in your previous post.

Is it a solid mark or can you partly see through it? Is it the only and single mark on the images?

Better yet can you post an example here for more insight? A picture can speak a 1000 words when it comes advice.

Oh, sorry if I also missed this......but I did ask about the make & model of the camera?

Are you able to provide a link to your old camera too, the one with the mark? Interested to know what it is.

Because I have doubts that any repairers would charge less than £70 to examine, strip to quote......and any parts would then push the costs >£100

Box, I made my comment before we knew what camera the OP had. For all we knew it could've cost within the region of £500, which may have benefitted from a cost effective repair instead of chucking it out and getting a new one, especially as it was so new. Was simply trying to answer the rather broad question that the OP has posed in the thread title [emoji106]

Chuck them both in the bin and wait until you have enough money for a new one. Then keep it and cups of tea well away from each other :)

Soon the OP will have enough posts to sell them in the classifieds here for parts!

Its not a joke. I don't know why you think it is. You have no idea how much i have been struggling this year. I get angry, I don't have a gf, im 25 and I don;'t have a job
You need some professional help with firstly getting a job which will help with your self worth and your bank balance. It doesn’t have to be your dream job, you can work up to that once you’re ready. Then you can buy a new camera and your mum some flowers. Then if you still need it you should gets some professional help with managing your anger, that should come before a girlfriend.

@samthefootball

Please do not be upset about some of the doubting questions, other new joiners have been shall we say suspect and your pattern of posts could raise questions about you.

So let's get back on track :)

Can you clarify the exact make and model of each of your cameras. Both the Xmas present and the older one with the black mark showing on the pictures.

Next please post into this thread an example or two of the pictures with the black mark.

With more detailed specific replies all being well I/we might be able to point you towards possible help.....except of course whether you can afford any costs that might be involved and/or how long you can wait to buy anything new or secondhand to get you back into photography.
