"Lies, damned lies and statistics"

"infinite number of monkeys"

More needed? I think not

:cuckoo:

Dave, don't you think it's time to grow up just a little?

You've got some great photos on your web site. And you took them, not the camera. If you had a Canon or a Pentax or a Sony, and a comparable set of lenses, they'd be just as good.

I've got some crap photos on my Smugmug gallery. And if I had a Nikon they'd be just as crap.

LIES LIES LIES,

or

:bang::bang::bang:

As a Canon owner... I really couldnt care less if I used a Canon or Nikon. They are much of a muchness.

The only reason I keep buying Canon is the lens issue.
If lenses weren't an issue, I might well have bought a Nikon amongst my purchases....there really is not that much between them... and the star rating absurdly overdoes any differences there are.

Just silly.

If it had been a Canon that had won you'd be waving your willy around like every other canon owner on here :nono:

As with all of these "surveys"

Where was it carried out
Who was asked
What was the question
How many responded
Who commissioned and or paid for the survey
Were the results independently checked

The devil is in the detail

Now now Ross, I'm as happy to wave it about as any other bloke at the right times but it takes far more than a thumbs up for some distant camera company. ;)

ok maybe not ALL of you :D

I really do fail to see how most other cameras are 60% worse than the nikon, considering i've used both nikons and canons and the differences are extremely marginal and mostly personal preferance I really fail to see how they got these statistics.

It doesnt really matter if you're use a top spec nikon or a holga, the proof is in the pictures which is why I usually ignore the whole Canon vs Nikon arguement, I chose canon because I prefer their digital camera bodys and lenses I dont see that as a reason to hate any nikon cameras...

Agreed. Its horses for courses, I chose Nikon because several friends have them so got some play time in before buying, and love my Nikons to bits, and sure as hell wouldnt go to the expence of changing now, but who knows, had I gone to a shop and played I might have been swayed to Canon. Although the only shop I did visit has a leaning towards Nikon too [though I didnt know that then]

JD Power Surveys are normally very accurate and in fact the motoring industry takes them very seriously indeed

http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/about/overview/

This is very true indeed, having been on the end of letters 'from above' when JD surveys are published. I didnt know they did electronics surveys though.

So, I haven't got a willy to wave so will settle for.... :nikon: :naughty:

Dont worry - I'll lend you mine on Sunday :D

As for surveys - all [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER]. Even more so when looking at customer perception or satisfaction. A representative sample is utter, utter tripe as a true representative sample can only be 100% of the population. After that little soap box is jumped off its straight onto the 'who bothers to respond' soapbox. you're either totally peeved with your service / goods / supplier or you are out of this world in love with them. In between those two extremes dont bother to respond.

before some of the more moronic members shout Foul play Jonny - i'd have the same cynical view no matter what the survey or what the result.

I'm now going to take several deep breaths to wind down from being sucked into this trolls thread for the second time.

that looks so biased its unbelievable, how can you tell if a camera looks good !!

 I didnt want to reply but I felt I had to, I normally manage to avoid this sorta petty stuff.

I wholeheartedly support JD's results.

Nikon are, quite simply, the best.

All you canon users - ever hear of "sour grapes"?

:p

JD who?:thinking::shrug::suspect:

Let them stick with automotive stuff, it would seem from some opinions in this thread that they know something about that at least...

:D

OH PLEASE............ we have had this so many times.... it really is SO childish....listen to yourself.

They are both brilliant makes of camera.... let's just leave it at that shall we.

I don't know how anyone who considers themselves a grown-up could enter into this type of ridiculous debate.

Without hard data the results are worthless...

I'm sorry - I'm lost for words

I think we should get a sony/pentax user to test out both of them for TP, then we might start to get somewhere

For my 2p then - of course this survey has to be false somewhere, I don't believe there's a bad camera made these days, nor has there really been one for the last 20 years - true some are 'better' than others, but it's only minor differences usually

What made me chuckle with this one is that JD Power surveys usually make the industry sit-up and take notice - certainly car-makers love/loathe JD depending on where they come in the survey; and much has been done to improve as a response

I really can't image why Nikon are so far in front

As for the 'DD grow up' comment... this link was passed to me by a club member who's 70 yrs old, and in most clubs the Canon/Nikon sides wage war whenever possible all in good humour. Tomorrow is a club comp, and the C/N debate will raise its head again depending on who wins, and in my club at least the Canon people are better at mud-slinging than the (fewer) Nikon ones

Isn't pointless rival banter fun really? It's a constant source of amusement in our club at least, and I'm usually on the losing end :'(:'( so it's nice here to have some [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] in support - cheers JD

Choice of camera brand is an individuals decision - they all produce photographs at the end of the day, it's just which brand you prefer.
I am sure Dave meant his comment as fun & I think that was how it has been taken by most - I've only been going to my camera club for a few weeks & I've already noticed this kind of banter amongst the older photogs.
Play nicely peeps
:canon: as did the the reviewer, they're just in denial

Having finally bothered to read the JD Power survey itself, this is of interest - quoted from their site

The 2007 Digital Camera Usage and Satisfaction Study is based on responses from more than 7,500 consumers who purchased a digital camera between June 2006 and May 2007.

The survey itself was done on 4 ranges of camera, so DSLRs could have been only c.2000 responses

And on 5 brands, so any user could have been only 400 replies

From 50 million cameras!!!!!!!!!!! FFS

Head says - pointless survey 'result'
Fun factor says - go Nikon, go Nikon... :D

JohnnyReb's 1st response is more accurate "Lies..."

Dave, does this mean I'll get picked on and marked down cos I have a pentax....

[S1]I <3 my Pentax[/S1] <- Had to make my own! :(

Yep!

Pentax poo - LOL

Actually, the main protagonists are the Canon crowd who aim at Nikon only (mostly me in fact!), other makes are in fact ignored

So I say, do well, especially as a newbie to photography too, and set up a Pentax following all of your own based on results

errr Dellipher

Doesn't your little sign just say "I less than 3 Pentax" ???

When its not comp night, I'll bring you my pentax to have a play with...but please do not use it as a plant pot :)

And yes <3 = slang for a love heart if you tilt your head to the side....hahahhaha
Oh....Dave is now thinking "the youngesters of today and their internet language" pmsl :exit:

I don't know how anyone who considers themselves a grown-up could enter into this type of ridiculous debate.

...said Janice as she entered into this type of ridiculous debate.

:)

Ya see, Janice, in my part of the world my post would fall within the banner of, perhaps, sarcasm. And yes, whilst it may also be known as the lowest form of wit, hey, at least I'm having a go...

I really have no loyalty to any brand, Canon, Nikon or otherwise. As you yourself said, ones stock of lenses does, in some way, enforce a loyalty that perhaps isn't deserved.

Having said that, I to some am "old school". I bought my first Nikon, an FM, back in 78 and, in my opinion, at that time most pros were shooting Nikon. Now perhaps the tables have turned vis-a-vis Sainsbury and Tesco.

No, rather my post, and I suspect that of several on this thread, was made to get a reaction. It worked...

:)
