Ok, heres the thing, this year I want to upgrade my cameras (D40x and D70) I was thinking D200 but I'm being drawn more to the D90 as it seems to have everything I (think) I need to give me a little bit of future-proofing. After all the D200, although a great camera is getting on a bit.

So, in conclusion, what does the panel think, good idea or another lunatic with more money than sense. :cuckoo:. And is the D90 a worthy upgrade?

Cheers

Andy

The D90 has better image quality than the D200.
Autofocus will be pretty much the same.
Accessories will be cheaper for the D90.
The D200 has better build quality and weatherproofing than the D90.
The D200 has better functionality with older lenses.
The D90 has movie mode.

So it all depends on what you need from the camera.

Edit:
The best of both worlds, minus the movie mode is the D300. If you can afford it, I'd stretch to the D300/D700.

Thanks for that Blapto,

I'm not that fussed about the movie mode but the image quality is my main concern.
If I go for D300/700 it will be toward the end of the year before I get it and I would ideally like to use it this Summer on me 'ols. But I really like the D300 so....

The D90 is basically just a pared-down comsumer version of D300, in the same way the D80 was for the D200. If you can afford a D300 then I'd plump for that, but the D90 is the next best thing..

Get a 2nd Hand D300 there's plenty about for good prices!

Where? Can't say I've looked that hard but I haven't seen any on here for a while for example.

Thanks Flash. I think I may go for the D90 as it seems to offer everything I need and I can get it this year. Even a 2nd hand D300 is £700 plus and may be a step too far at this stage in my photography.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the D90? have you got one? what do you think of it?

Cheers

With price rises imminent I've just purchased a D90 for my wife from our local camera shop (£599) I have to say it's a lot of camera for the money and at least now it will keep her away from my D300 :D
